Buying locations?

So I bought the location for some point way out in the middle of nowhere where there is a debris field, some semi-destroyed satelites, and a whole lot of nothing. This is the second time this has happened. What is the point in buying these locations?

Sometimes they sell you the location of downed ships, which spurt loot when you shoot at them.

Otherwise, I've found little need in purchasing info on bases or planets.

Don't buy info, just follow routes, i normally use the allies routes and where lots of enemy ones go to one point, there's normally a base or a jump point there.
