Well, this is irritating.

I played through the single player Freelancer game when it first came out. Then I got tired of it, and put it aside, even though I really loved the game. There just wasn't much to do with it that I hadn't already done.

Then, last night, I hear there's an active modding community for Freelancer. My interest in the game immediately returns and I go looking for something to make the game all shiny and new again.

Everywhere I look, EVERYONE says that TNG is the single best FL mod out there.

And now you can't get version 1.60. If I had returned to the game a week earlier, I would be enjoying it now.

So let me ask: Why is it unavailable? I know why Starfyre Studios took it down from their site, but why Lancer's Reactor and other sites? Is it at the request of Starfyre Studios, or just fear of MS? Will the 1.60 download be returning anywhere? Does anyone have a link to a place that still has it? The MS thing is clearly a hoax, and as far as I can see wasn't sent to Lancer's Reactor or any mod sites. So why don't any of them have it available?

Reynen and the others are currently in the process of determining if this indeed was a hoax. There are still servers online that still play it (last time I checked anyways) and it is still highly held by supporters. Anyways, due to the fact nothing is proven yet, no one wants to put it back up in case the MS document was true. If you seriously want it, I could try to send it through aim or something.

Im in the same situation i came back to freelancer for mods just as the whole M$ thing went nuts oh and btw if there isnt any clear profit being made off of the mod microsoft has no worthy lawsuit and M$ would not send an E-Mail they would send a real letter anywho thats my thoughts YO BobTheDog i just went to the website it still redirects to the main page i have been going nuts trying to find this MOD well the new version anyway it rocks

That link goes to the download page, but the actual link to download the mod redirects to the front page.

There's nothing to violate. The entire email was a hoax, according to Starfyre Studios. Even if it wasn't a hoax, it would have to be sent to all the sites hosting the mod for them to be forced to remove it. So, the only reason NOT to host it is if someone from Starfyre asks you not to. The only effect of your hosting it would be to make me very happy.

ok, this sounds stupid in light of the above, but when I use the URLs provided to try and download it, I get caught in a stupid loop and I am unable to download 1.60.

I would be willing to have it emailed to me, or sent over a messenger service (YIM or MSNIM).

I was really looking forward to 2.0, but I also underdstand the "no appreciation + no respect + this is total bull**** = this is not worth it anymore" equation.

Thats happening for everyone. They still haven't put the mod back up. I wish we could get an official word from Starfyre about this, because two of them have posted in this thread saying that it should work, but it still doesn't and their front page says it's down indefinitely. It's frustrating.
