hmmm, strange - downloading an 1.75Mb file but the download is continuing to its crached.
It seems that the MTU_value is not good, thats the receiving data buffer for receiving downloading files. The best way is to go www.dslreports.com/tweaks and download "Tweak Tester II" half way of the page.
After execute the program give you the results what the data of the connection, and give you the date what is the best MTU_value is.
Be carifulliy of the MTU_value, is the value to high then the connection crached, for testing do the next things manualy, if you in the back of an private_router on an single PC.
- open an DOS command screen.
- ping ping.xs4all.nl -l 1500 -l is the lowercase L 1500 is the experiment MTU valeu
if no answer the MTU_value is to high - repeated with 1470 and testing again - is there an answer go to 1785 - to high go to 1477 - answer go to ..... this is the quickist methode for an good result.
Succes

After you find the correct MTU_value notice this.
Download "DrTCP" - the link where to find this program is finding in the "Tweak Tester II"
note - used the correct netwerkcard for the correct MTU_value.
Click on SAVE
Reboot the PC.
Thats all
succes.
Best regards

Well, I'm trying to figure out how the hell to install the 1.4 advanced.
Do I just copy the folders and overwrite everything? And then what? Use FLMM for the spinning planets and battleships files? Sorry to ask a stupid question ... but how do I know exact;y what to do what with?
Thanks,
Cyaron

I gave this answer also in the general editing fhread.
Sorry for the confusion.
As it is there are currently 4 different versions of the patch in the download area.
1. Unofficial patch 1.4 in zip format. This one is without the spinning planets and battleship encounters. You have to unpack it and copy the files to their destination. This is what I released.
Now for the benefit of easier installation the following versions were created:
2. Unofficial patch 1.4 in FLMM format
3. Unofficial patch 1.4 Advanced edition in FLMM format with the battleship encounters and spinning planets.
4. Unofficlal patch 1.4 in exe format, selfextracting. I know nothing about this version.
By the sound of it you have a version with spinning planets, that is the Advanced edition and it is in FLMM so you have to use FLMM to install it like you would install a mod.

Personally, I'd go for mainstream installing the spinning planets and other accessories, as they're all decent improvements to the game (and IMO, should have been in there in the first place).
Though, I'm actually posting in follow up to my above comment on entries in surprise_solar.ini and whether or not anybody has any feedback on that. I've tested it myself and have noticed it working.

A follow-up for some information that does not seem to be present in 1.4, namely some missing BGCS_base_run_by lines. Prepare to scroll, sorry.

Meandog,
I never heard of anyone having this kind of problems when using the patch.
Nor can I think of anything in the original patch that would cause such effect as you discribe. Please be advised though that there various versions of the patch available, each suited for different situations and therefore each requires a different approach inactivating.
Sorry that I can not be of more assistance to you.
See you in Sirius
