52yr Old needs an editor

Yepper!
I'm 52 years old, and been playing computer games since 1982.

I'd like to edit FL, but all the info around mentions VB, C+, Compiler's, etc.
I don't know squat about any of those!
I only know things like Q-basic, and the like.

As to what I want to edit...
I'm interested in editing saved games (as a last resort.)
But what I'd really like to do, is to...
1) Give ALL the light fighters, the Banshee's stats.
2) Give ALL the heavy fighters, the Falcon, or Valkyrie's stats.
3) Give ALL the very heavy fighters, the Sabre's stats.
4) Give ALL the freighters, the Humpback's stats.
(With just 1 price for all of them.)
That would even the playing field, and allow one to pick the ship that just looks, feels, cool.

Most MOD's seem to add ships, change 1 or 2 stats, add systems, etc.
I haven't seen one that evens them out.
Any help, or direction, would be greatly appreciated.

To edit multiplayer saved games use the
IONCROSS Freelancer Server Operator mk.II.1 by Joe Boomz.

To edit singleplayer saved games use the IONCROSS Freelancer Character Editor mk.V also by Joe Boomz.

To edit the original files yourself use the FreelancerSDK v1.3 by =EOA=Louva-Deus
Freelancer SDK is set of decompressed ini files(over 1200) from the original game of Freelancer, you can use this package to make your mod making life easier since it contains fixes for all the major errors in the original source. It also fixes the errors caused from decompression using bini.

The Tinyfish Freelancer Ini Editor v1.4.4 beta is a utility you can use to help you edit the ini files.

You can also edit the ini files yourself. Of coarse you need to know what each file does. Read the information in the Forums > Freelancer Editing: Freelancer Editing Tutorial Forum

And Forums > Freelancer Editing: Freelancer General Editing Forum

Read the Newbie Questions and Newbie Questions part 2

And a very valueable post Compilation of ALL IDS names, Mod Info, Tutorials, INI explination by Reynen.

If you don't understand something post your questions in the General Editing Forms. Hopefully one of the experienced mod makers will answer your question.
Keep in mind that most of the best mod makers that are still involved in modding Freelancer are busy with normal life besides being involved in making mods so your questions may take some time to be answered.

Some of the experienced people do come to the forms now and then so be patient.

Hope this helps.

Thanx for all the great info.

I HAVE looked through the various forums...
And I've tried several MODs...
I've understood a lot of what was said, just don't have the programs to do anything.

Thanx, ag'in!

What programs are you looking for.
Other than making custom ships there isn't any special programs.
There is Freelancer Explorer that helps you make custom systems.

Other than that All the Mods are, shall we call it hand made.
They are made by editing the ini files by hand one at a time or scripting which is a faster way but scripting is still done by the individual.

I hope I'm not confusing you.

My main problem was not knowing what to use.
I tried several programs in the "download" section, but nothing worked.
(I've got an old P3 Win98SE laptop.)

However, that IONCROSS IFCE program is great!
Edited a couple of save games, and no problems.
(Like I've had with several MODs.)

I'm going to try using the ini-editor to make my own MOD.

My ultimate goal is to turn FreeLancer into Privateer 3!
I figure that if I have the story begin at the point where Juni calls you back to Manhattan, Level 4-5, it would work.
I want to turn Maine into the new starting base, unlock all of the gates & holes, and perhaps reveal the entire map.
And it will have/sell pirate ships that are hard to get in the game, IE: Dagger, Dromedary, Wolfhound, Anubis, etc.
Still start out with the Starflier (Value=50,000, Stats like a current Drake), but with 10,000 credits.
Remove Classes IE:Change ships, Weapons, etc all set to zero.
Have one engine/power source for each class.
Have a set price for the various ship classes, ie: Light Fighter, Heavy Fighter, etc.
For example: LF=100,000 / HF=150,000 / VHF=200,000 / FR=175,000
That way, only the appearance, number of hard points, and turn rates will be different.

Now that I have the editor's, it's time to get to work!

And all of the Jump gates/holes are unlocked.

Is there a search feature on this forum?
It'd sure help!

Prices for ships are in the goods.ini file in the eqiupment folder. The price is made from the price of the hull of the ship, followed by the price of the package. The price of the package is mainly made up by the shield that is mounted.

That is just to explain why when you set the 'hull' price to 50,000 it is acutally about 170,000 for the eagle, but only 50,100 for the starflier! LOL.

Warzog: I just read your post. Your subject line is what caught my eye, and I just had to drop in and say hello. I'm 50 myself and have been messing with computers and games since 1976 when I bought my first built-it-yourself computer kit.

Youngsters be warned! Your games are silently being taken over by us old farts with with too much life experience and some pretty out of this world ideas. Not to worry though; I have five nephews who love the things I do to their games!

Have fun Warzog. Good luck with your mod.
