Utility for designing new ships.

Whats a good utility to use for designing new ships for Freelancer, and where can I find it? Also, is there a tutorial for designing new ships?

Answer #1: Your imagination. You'll find it in your head.

Answer #2: There is no tutorial for imagination.

Cynical? Nah. I spaketh thine truth!
Seriously, there is no wonder utility that lets you patch together bits of ships, or generates new bits for you to kitbash, or whatever.

Well, except for pen and paper...

Beyond that, you're venturing into the realm of programs like Milkshape3D, Rhino3D, Lightwave, 3D StudioMax, etc, etc.... the big 3D programs. They're you're best bet, but... I have a fear of them myself.

I personally believe that milkshape 3d is the best modelling program, it is easy to use and fairly powerful, but there are still a few that I have not tried.

I'm really going to have to disagree with you there. If you put in the time to really learn 3D studio (about a week) you'll find that max is leagues beyond that steaming pile known as milkshape. I wouldn't even have it on my hard drive if there were a ship exporting utility for max.

Geee... what if we don't have a couple grand laying around to buy Max? last time I checked, MilkShape was only $20. Sure, I'd love to have Max, but I don't have that kind of cash to buy a modeling program.
