Mission 24

Anyone have advice on how to complete? i tried doing what the walkthrough says but im never able to get to the rippers in time. should i blow up all the fighters before i take out the borodin or what? also, how many nova cannon shots does it take to kill a kurgen?

First mistake. Fly a Shroud. Much easier. And yes, I find killing all fighters prior to engaging the turrets helps. Just ignore Mukai.

kill all fighteres, then all turrets, then any fighters that appear to attack the rippers, rippers only apper after a loss of a certain amount of turrets if i remember right

oh and either fly a shroud so you can cloak to stop the ion cannon, or hide behind the station itself when it powers up to fire (its damn hard to complete the mission doing this)

I agree, shroud is probably the best start, then enjoy killing the fighters etc.
I recommend going for the turrets that can actually hit the rippers first as they jump in before all of them are trashed. After that, just have fun

In ANY mission where you have to soften a target for Rippers, I always take out ALL Fighters first

No way am i going to fly the shroud! nova cannon is just too much fun....and i figured out it takes one fully charged nova cannon shot to take a kurgen down to nearly zero, and then a couple primary shots to finish it off. Im usually fine with the ion cannon except for when i go out to escort the rippers, then it gets a lock and kills me

i gotta hand it to ya.
- none other than the shroud can cloak
- none other is more agile and fast as the shroud (sometimes, agility is too much to handle)
- its useless except for the fact that it can cloak.
but u need it to complete it unless u r super good.
if the phoenix could cloak, then i say go for that.
use the shroud !! use its cloak ability !

Moose: watch out! missile on our 6!!
pilot(you):u r in the rear seat, and its at our '6' - u first.

I noticed that if you stay close to the cargo ship, you're both away from the nova cannon range and are able to protect the rippers - just ignore those that fly to the Borodin and keep on hitting dow fighters that come close to the mammoth.

But what about when the rippers are near the Borodin?

I just ignored those Rippers that are near the Borodin (always worked)- all the fighters seem to be hurrying to the Mammoth, and you can't possibly protect those poor Rippers from the ion cannon anyway.

But the Rippers need to go to the borodin to lay their charges

Yeah, but I noticed they can do it without my baby-sitting. Occasionally some of them get blown up, but mostly by the ion cannon rather than the fighters. It is around the mammoth that the losses are most severe, since the Rippers have to stop to pick the charges 9and others are standing waiting in a line), and they're sitting ducks then. Anyway, that's the impression i got.
Besides, if you follow them to the Borodin, you also have to hide away from the ion cannon, which makes fighter hunting more complicated.
