it fires when it feels like it, u don't have control over it. i don't know what it fires at, but it does fire - some thick laser bolt i think.

a bit disappointing, but thanks for the help.
hopefully freelancer does not have misleading things like these.

I bet the rear-turret thing was going to be implemented like it was in Wing Commander 4, but then they decided to cut it out late in the development process.

It's no big deal to me - I got myself killed a lot more in WC4 trying to use the silly things than not. They were pretty useless.

um.. guys it does fire ... what u do is u look back (key V) and u will see those turrets will aim behind (u will have to wait for sec) and u click on fire. it only fires turret. im using dis to defend myself while im docking in.

It would have be good if it was Auto-Firing like the Tarrgets on the Devastor in WC Prophecy

Issew,

Please specify if you are using a dreamcast or PC.

I looked up the Coyote and the Predator in the SL Tool Editor. The definition for 'Rear Gun' in SL Tool is just Gun. This makes me believe that it does not work in the game, because the type of gun needs to be defined. I checked the guns on the body and they are defined this way: 'Gun: Proton Cannon'. So the position of the rear gun is defined, but there is no actual gun 'installed'. I modified the Coyote with SLTool to put a Gatling Plasma Cannon there, but I have not been able to successfully import the modified Coyote into the game, causing me no end of frustration. I attempted many times to get the modded coyote in the game with no luck. I will post my failed efforts in the editing forum, but I thought that maybe someone else who wants those decorations to actually work may try and succeed.

FYI, don't try to put a missile turret, or capship turret there, let's just try to get 1 simple gun there first.

Thanks,

SMATZ

he said press the v key.. that would mean pc version.

you can also press h to enter turret view (which is also able to be toggled between mouse and mouse free look) and look behind you.

regardless of their ability to fire, they are practically useless on a fighter unless they are able to fire in the forward position as is the case with some ships, such as the Sabre. in a normal fight you will not be looking behind you, especially not to fire a single gun. in a formation it might seem viable to use since you don't have to control the ship at that point, but it isn't.

Raige,

We are talking about STARLANCER. You are talking about FREELANCER. V in STARLANCER (PC) changes the radar range.

I don't have a dreamcast, so I thought that *maybe* there was a V on the dreamcast pad, since V on the PC works the radar. Gamecube pad has A B C.

It could alos be V on the Dreamcast Keyboard?

I figured it out after playing Freelancer. Issew is talking about Freelancer, not Starlancer...

It was another cross-forum confusion making post.

Thanks,
