How do you edit existing savegames?

I just downloaded the Star Wars mod and the savegame editor. I would like to edit my savegame so I have enough money to buy one of the new ships, but I don't know where to begin! There is newplayer.fl and mpnewchar.fl but when I edit them it doesn't effect anything ingame. Can anyone tell me how to edit actual savegames? Thanks in advance.

The savegames are in my documents\my games\Freelancer\accts\single playerNote the savegames with custom names are in numerical form. Your best bet is to start a new game, quit FL, and edit the autosave, then load the autosave in-game, and save it.
