Well, I thought I'd better post a link here before the file falls into obscurity and we're all bombarded by "How do I texture..." posts again.

For those of you that cannot afford to curplunk $300 - $600 for Photoshop, or do not feel the need to pirate; PaintShop Pro WILL work with the NVIDIA filters (I just confirmed it with version 7 by retexturing my ship ).

By the way, thank you so much for an excellent tutorial. It's well written, easy to follow, and it helps to explain some of the method behind the graphics (maybe now I can edit my engines )!

Thanks, man.Excellent indeed. We should all give you 1 percent of our income, then you could quit your regular job an rewrite all the available tutorials

Thanks to you I now also understand how to texture the costumes the people wear and the planets.

So, now the Order finally have some female officers (which will, of course, lead it to its demise ), but I guess that I can now also create a stationary Death Star (a small planet with -almsot- no atmosphere, a nice Death Star texture and a ghost dock ring. I guess it will look amateurish, but I think it will suite my need).

Sorry for digressing; just expressing my enthousiasm.

I've got some questions.

If we open a file in the UTF editor -let's take or_ships.mat for example- and open the material, we see, among others, the two branches:

{-} elite_2562sideOR
--- Dc
--- Dt_flags
--- Dt_name
--- Type

and

{-} elite_256OR
--- Dc
--- Dt_flags
--- Dt_name
--- Type

Now, the Dt_name seems to point to a file in the material library. If I change the filename of that file, and the sting value of the corresponding Dt_name in the material library, will that work? Or is there some other file that refers to these entries?

And can I change the elite_2562sideOR and elite_256OR into, say, horus_2562sideOR and horus_256OR , or are they referred to in another file?

I hope my questions are clear; I'm not familiar with these things.

The reason i ask, is that it somehow strikes me as odd, that a modifed ship use variables of the same name as its unmodified "brother". But if the refernces are limited to this .mat-file it doesn't matter ofcourse.

Thanks in advance!
