Ship Speeds

Could someone tell me which file I need to edit to increase the available ships speeds..
I like the eagle but think it should go faster. can this be done.?? if so where and which lines need to be changed..

or you could change your thruster speed, because i changed my engine speed once and it makes it annoying when trying to land, cos the ai goes full speed(300)and bounces off all the walls, or just ends up flying in circles around the base, so i suggest changing thruster speed only

Thanks to everyones help I now have my ship the way I like it..
the problem with the thruster speed increase is that every ship in the game that has the thrust you have can go just as fast. makes dog fighting real interesting. so what i did is this..
I set the cruise engine up to do 500 instead of 300 and then I changed the speed on the order thruster. {still had one in my ship inventory}.. now I have a thruster that will send my ship screaming across the sectors at 999 for some reason it won't go fast then that.. I now have the best ship in the game. 999 thruster and a cargo hold of 70000 I spend my money on torpedos that are pretty much useless but they are fun to use against weapons platforms.

the problem with the thruster speed increase is that every ship in the game that has the thrust you have can go just as fast.
You could also do something like this just incase you want your favorite freelanceing buddy to aquire this thruster that achieves light speed

we only sell the ge_s_thruster_04 at the local speed shop.
this way only the players will have them, why you ask because npc types are not allowed in the equipment shop. Trent said so

BAH, encrouching 36 hours of modding/reading and it's 1 minute away from 3AM - BUT I LOVE IT!

Anyway, back to the matter at hand. You do know that you can create a totally different thruster (just as you can with weapons and almost any other item) that will not be used by NCPs? Just used the same method that you use with creating new weapons (click here).

I'm currently working on creating an additional hardpoint to accomidate a second specialized thruster. Basically it will end up having more thrust than the standard one, yet the statistics will be halved as well, so it has little, if any value to ships that can only accomidate one thruster.

I'm not into the "make a ship that crosses a system in two seconds." I'd much rather work harder creating something that (believably) fits into the game. Anyway, it's late and I'm rambling. I just thought I would pass along the FYI regarding new thrusters and items in general.

BTW: If anyone is interested in how I did it (it's really not that hard at all), just post and I'll be glad to list how it's done (even with infocards if you want them).

Yep, it's late and I don't know what I'm talking about. I just realized you probably meant the auto-docking AI, which of course was nutty to begin with if you are crazy with cruse engines (I stop just short of crashing into the station/ring - drives that AI mad). Sorry about that - ignore me if you haven't already!

You can do even better...

max_force = 48000

This is the engine force, it does NOT merely determine the max speed, it is also used to determing how the ship turns, accelerates and stops. Increasing this will make your ship move faster, turn faster, start quicker and stop in a shorter distance but it will not make your thruster produce more of an increase, in other words your stock thruster will give you 120 over whatever your new max speed is.

linear_drag = 599

This is the fun number to play with it not only affects your normal flying speed but it also changes the amount of speed gain you get from the thruster.

So, rather than using: desired speed * 600 = force
Try using: force / desired speed = drag (subtract 1 from the final drag if you actually want to reach the exact desired speed)

In my mod light fighters go faster, 120 m/s, and their afterburners are more effective (just over 300 m/s), on the opposite end of the spectrum freighters still go 80 m/s but the afterburners get them up to a mere 160 rather than 200. All possible even though they use the same thrusters.
