**Tutorial** - Add scanners and tractor beams to the invento

This tutorial is NOT about adding new equipment to the game(check Reynen's list of the tutorials on this forum), it's only to make existing items, your scanner & tractor beam, part of your inventory. Then, you can sell them. You can even upgrade your scanner to the hidden, "Deep Scanner". And from here, it should be no trouble to add new clases of scanners or tractor beams.

Add this to the end of your misc_good.ini file->

now, if you want to add this to, say, Planet Manhattan (Li01_01_base), open market_misc.ini and find the section for Manhattan. It starts off like this:

add these lines at the end of the list:

Yes, I tried with a load out of ship with none, none. It said it would not fly wthout scanner -so i bought one. Noext it said can not fly wihout engine (or was that power plant) so I bought one. It flew! Even though it had no power plant; I just could not fire weapons or anything flagged as using power (set thruster to zero power usage and it will work). I used a complete stripped down hull only. It did not have a tractor beam either. Just need the HULL, Scaner, and Engine to fly.

Power plants can be added; but they act different. TobMaster MOD did this made up 7 powerplants buy able and mountable and 5 engines. Download that mod and check it out. He got it to work. He claims they all work! I am checking it out right now.

I was just offering basicly three versions of ship hull for sale with three versions of powerplant already mounted to get around them not working. I want game harder and when you buy a new ship; all you get is plain hull like in original Privateer.

Alot of stuff was left out; you will find even a repair droid in there but it is not implemented. Even mission one had a bounty mission to find that 1 of 2 transports that got lost during the first mission; but was cut out.

The encounter missions shows they were going to have more random mission encounters; bounty hunting armored transsport with VIP and Prisoner ships; but all was nerfed to get it out the door. too bad they dumbed the game down into arcade.

3 versions of ship hulls - hadn't thought about that one! You don't mind if I... remember, do you?
Repair droid^!%? in what file did you find that?

And it's not arcade, they just greatly simplified the interface and got suckered by Micro$oft.

Looking at the string text in the EXE with a hex editor. Alot of stuff was left out; like weapon coolers, shield boosters, etc. MicroBrain just shoved the the game dumbed down out the door. That is why I think Chris Roberts quit since his original remake of Privateer was getting the MS touch of death.--> Arcade game for kids.

Quick profit. At lest maybe they can release the open source EXE code so we can modify it back to the original intent of game. I was trting to decompile it, but it is encrypted when it was compressed into the form it is now. No de-compiler I know of will do it.

There is the ultimate way; but impratical. Using Hex editor and debuger to stop exe to see what adress it is at (and memeory editor with dump) you could go through each assembler code (machine code) step by step and re-create what the program was. after all, the computer only understands machine code in bytes. You can run a debug and memory dumper to see what is going on each step in line of EXE code and reverse engineer it. a daunting task; but not immpossible. Even though I never learn much C++ do to my age I did get the painful pleasure of learning the old stupid machines that understood assembly code only ( no high level language). It is not hard for me to read what hex code is for assebly language such as MOV ax, (adress) moves data from a memeory location into the processor buffer to act upon it. etc. MS alows a map of proccessor location. I used to program small microcontrollers with a 1 to 2 thousands lines of 'code' --> translated into machine language; then burned into its memory. this would be in the millions?...LOL have fun.

That isn't even remotely like Malay, it's probably Tagalog (Philippino).

Back on topic, yeah, if you played Privateer (1), you'd see the gun cooler stuff (or did those come with the Righteous Fire add-on? I forget). The levels of armor were in there too, plasteel, tungsten. I don't quite remember Privateer 2, I only know it was during those FMV-fever days and that the ships, although more in number, weren't anywhere as customiseable -- so you get the same situation like here, i.e. everybody and his brother wants to fly a Sabre or something.

The Privateer shielding model appealed to me much more than Freelancer's does. I mean... *click* instant full shields? :/ The shields here feel like merely an extension of the hull, the regen rate is laughable. Ditto for the enemy ships. Remember in Privateer if you took on enemies that were a little too tough for you, they'd regen their shields back?

Xerx, about editing the executable... the diablo modding community is making some progress in this direction regarding diablo 2, you can read about it in the Code Editing board on the Phrozen Keep forums --> http://phrozenkeep.it-point.com/forum/index.php? You can pick up tips and techniques on how to go about editing and debugging in there, even though it's a totally different game.

I've been following that for years (lol), but it shows that with perseverance you can do a heck of a lot of things ^^ Freelancer has only been released for a few months, and the progress here seems awesome. With a patch on the way, though, we should wait a little before delving into code editing ^^

what cool stuff is there else to be added? i've noticed that after adding the scanners they are now being shown in the cargo scan menue! but it seems like there's a whole lot of other features which are already in the game, but not activated yet. so how to make them available?

i just have a note to make i am farly new to the game freelancer but from what i have read on this site by the time / if there is going to be an expanson the modding will have maid it inn to a compleatly diferent game whit all it`s + and -
so i propose as some before me allready have is to kontakt the produser of the game and ask him to help us. if i where the produser of this game i tell MS to bend over and kiss thei a**, for hadd MS not interferd we woud have had a mutch better game

Ummm i did the mod... unless i did somethng wrong i still only get a max sensor range of about 4.5 thats as far as i can see other players or enemy.. I KNOW it is possible to have a scanning range of upto or more than 10k because on the server i play on there is a pkiller that can sit way out in the boonies and pick people of as they leave manhatan or wherever..

I know that Reynen did it in TNG mod.

cause i have been wating to add something like this to some of my mods, cause with my osiris mod it just keeps getting bigger i keep adding ships and new stuff to it, getting larger and larger
