Newby Win2000 Server

I am trying to set up a Win2000 Server to be my Freelancer server. I am on a private network so no firewall etc. I can see the server on the list but it won't let me connect. Any ideas on what needs changed on the server itself?

does it report any kind of error?

It just says that it the requested operation is taking longer than expected. Then after a minute or so it says that the connection could not be established to that server. The server runs just fine for file sharing. Also IIS is running and I can connect to it. IIS does require a password to log in. The folder that the Freelancer server is in is shared and everyone has full rights to the folder.

are you can you describe your network in more detail
i mean
are u using switch, hub or what...

because there is a problem connecting to servers if you use ICS (internet connection sharing) on client computer. but that is really strange...

if it's posible try switching computers... try putting server on computer you're trying to connect from and client on your win2000 server...

i'll let you know if i find anything!

what user are you logged in as on the w2k server when you start the FLserver?might be a local file permissions issue.

I login as an administrative account. The machine I play on will connect to other servers just fine, so it would seem to be a server issue. The machine I play on is WinXP Pro. Could that have any ramifications? Are any of you running flserver on a Win2000 server?

Also my network is a Baystack 350T switch going to a Netgear 5 port 10/100 switch. I can move files around between my computers and the server no problem.

I too use a Win2k Server box to run my server. It's a dedicated 24/7 hosted by the local phone company. I did a basic install of the os and then a basic install of the game. No problems. Both me and a buddy of mine run XP Pro and we have had no difficulties playing on it.

Can you give us any more details or things that you've tried?

I may have an answer for you, or at least something helpful. I've noticed that Windows 2000 sometimes gives administrator privileges to the actual administrator account, but not to other accounts in the administrator group. If you haven't already, try logging on with the administrator account, not another user who has administrator privileges.
