Freelancer 3D card problem

howdy, I was wondering if anyone has had this problem occur, I recently installed Freelancer and then purchased an ATI 9700 card. The game ran well with my old card, but now when I try to play Freelancer, It gives me this error:

Freelancer does not recognize your 3D video card.
Freelancer may have trouble running.

Would you like to continue? Yes No

Anyone have any ideas what is causing this? I've tried uninstalling Freelancer but it still doesnt like the card

Have you tried the new Catalyst 3.2 drivers released today?

Most likely you will have to re-install the game. Or is there a configuration INI file you can remove and the game will try to re-configure itself and detect the 9700. Re-installing is no biggie, just make sure you save your save games.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the darkness at Tan Hauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time like tears in rain. Time to die.

Um, hit Yes and play the game anyway. I have a new Gefore4 TI4200 (8x AGP) and it says that, even when I use WHQL drivers. I just clicked yes and started playing, no problems whatsoever.

In my orgional post I stated that I have reinstalled the game numerous times, still getting the same problem which didnt occur till after the card swap.

as for anything referencing freelancer, i've pretty much scanned my computer after uninstalling trying to find a left over ini file that maybe telling the game that I still have the old card in.

And I've tried to play the game by saying yes and its chunkier than peanut filled crap.

The message itself isn't the problem, its the Radeon drivers. have you tried the very latest drivers (release in the last 2-3 days)?

Yes, I have

Do other games and such work with the card? Is it possible the hardware's bad?

It might have some hidden file saved with your old card detected. You might have to search for it a bit but make sure there are NO traces of Freelancer anywhere.

Yes, It works fine with other games. I've played 1942 flawlessly

and as for searching for a hidden file, I have done that, unless Freelancer named it to something weird.. i've even gone into the registry and cleared out every reference to freelancer.

I dunno then.. seems that shoulda taken care of it.

I've got the same problem after installing an ATI Radeon 9500 Pro yesterday and the latest Catalyst (3.2). Did anyone figure something out or did you give up on the game?

I've tried uninstalling completely and reinstalling several times now, although I haven't gone to as great a lengths with the registry or looking for other remnant files. I can also confirm other games are fine.

Can anyone help or offer any suggestions???

Have a look at the flconfigdatabase.txt file in the freelancer\exe folder - it contains a list of 3d cards and drivers. I guess Freelancer looks up your card/driver in this database and displays a message if it isn't supported. New cards like the Radeon 9500 PRO won't be in the database, so you'll get the unrecognised 3d card message - just answer Yes and pray.

Sariel,

Thanks! That's a good start to fixing the problem. In looking at the file, it is clear that the 9500 and 9500 Pro are NOT in the file. This would tend to make it Digital Anvil or Microsoft's issue (IMO). SO, where do we go from here?

Anyone?
