FL: Wierd crashing\Radeon 9700

So far, i really love this game, but i have a prob.

At seemingly random points in playing this game, the video freezes. The sound continues, but control alt delete is ineffective, and video is totally frozen. I've heard of issues with the radeon 9700, which is what i run, but the issues were with framerates, and i applied the fix for those bugs. I haven't heard of anyone else with this same problem. I have the latest drivers. I attribute this to either my card, or my drivers.

My specs
________

AMD 2600+ XP
Baracuda 80MB HD
Radeon 9700 PRO
Soundblaster Audigy 2

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Thank's in advance!

i'm no computer expert, so i'm just throwing something out there...
would changing the AGP level help help? currently at 8X...would 4X do anything?

Post Thu Mar 13, 2003 2:07 am

or any setting, for that matter?

wow. I had high expectations, but i guess i was wrong to think more than 1 person would offer any sort of assistance to a fellow freelancer.

depends on the mobo. pot your motherboard and Illsee what you can do. But if you have a board based on the KT400 chipset than AGP 8x will definately give you problems. If thats the case tturn it down to 4X, from what Ive heard there's
very little performance decrease.

Give people some time man..

There has been many problems with the Raedons series.. Many people have said going into advanced options for your video card and turning the 'Hardware Acceleration' tab down one notch helps.

I run a radeon 9500 Pro with the agp set to 8x and I have no issues at all :dunno:

athlon xp 2200+
512 pc2700 DDR
radeon 9500 Pro
abit kd7 kt400

I keep my agp aperture at 256 mb, and I have everything maxed out including AA in the ati control panel.

the only thing I needed to do was the "troubleshoot" slider down one notch to un-screw the text slowness. other than that the game runs 100% badass.

does your comp only freeze when playing FL or any other Games too?
how does the screen look when its frozen? vertical colored lines maybe?

I actually encounter the same problem with a g-force 4200 ti. my other stats are:

athlon 1,333
512 Mb
MSI board
Soundblaster 4.1
Detonator 41.09

The game will suddenly (after about 10 min of play in average) lock up the computer. Sound will usually continue for a while, but the graphics freeze like a screenshot, no lines or any other disturtions (sp?) and I have to hardboot my computer. Ctrl-Alt-Del will not work at all.

I've tried about everything I can think of including turning off all backround tasks, reducing APG, turning off hardware acceleration on sound, reducing hw acceleration on graphics (if you turn it too low the game won't start any longer), turning off the anisoptric (?) filtering and all the rest that my graphic card comes with, installing newest sound drivers, disabling 3d sound, and changing resolution in the game.

If someone knows a solution to this problem I'd be very thankful, but the main purpose of this mail is to inform that it does not seem to be a Radeon problem.

Cheers,
Knolle

This problem is ATI's!!! I have a new 9700 Pro. The game freezes. I swap the card for a G4 MX. The game runs fine. In posts I have seen, Microsoft says this problem belongs to ATI. Yesterday, ATI announced new Catalist 3.2 drivers available "soon". Hopefully, help is on the way.

I have absolutely no problems with the Radeon 9700 using the "one notch" fix for the stuttering. All Direct3D and Open Gl settings at highest quality level. No issues at all with freezing up, runs smoothly. So, I don't think it's a Radeon or ATI issue for this particular problem.

Btw, I went to DA in December and spoke with the devs about the stuttering issue. They tried everything, and I mean everything, they could to fix this, but even after a thousand different hardware configurations, nothing worked. The stuttering is an ATI issue, and other games are having issues too. Waiting for the Catalyst 3.2's, should be any day now.....
