Text problem

The place to ask for technical help with running the demo or the full game...

Text problem

I just got the game today, and I have messed up text. It is unreadable in almost all areas, and I was wanted to know if anyone else has had this problem, and if there is a fix for it. A friend of mine had this problem with the demo too...

If not, I'll just have to hope it is fixed in an official patch or something.

Have the same problem. The following intel chipsets are not supported:
Intel 82810-DC100
Intel 810e
Intel 810
Intel 815
Intel i740
Intel 752

If you are using one of these, like me, you are SOL unless the powers that be decide to patch it.

I really hope they do, because it's frustrating...

You know, there's this file (I've since uninstalled it and am running Frontier: Elite II again) that goes through all these card types (just do a text search for Intel in the game install dir and you will find it), and then makes up all these disable rules. If someone could "open up" that file format for us, we could make our own entries, and thus solve some of our own problems. I have the elite but unmentioned SiS 730 processor on my mainboard, and get the blind buttons problem (and occasionally a transparency issue with the cursor), as well as some display artifacts. It suggests that the Z-buffer is involved in the text display, somehow. The thing is, if you don't do these layers right, they end up Z-fighting (yes, that's a technical term) and flipping text in and out, randomly. I suspect that the programmers did not use 'decal' overlays when they did this. It really is overkill to do them in polygons, but whatever... Heaven forbid Microsoft use DirectDraw to draw text, no, they have to use InDirect means.

Frontier: Elite II, Always wanted it multiplayer; thanks, Microsoft[!

I have the Intel 815 and am experiencing the same text problem. Very frustrating as the game runs fine and looks great except for being unable to read much of the text.

If anyone knows of a fix or workaround for this I'd be eternally grateful.

Here's a fix, it's hard to believe that noone else has noticed that this is a GFX Card "Setup" file and that you can fix your own problems with it.
Funny how Microsoft couldn't help but after 20-30 mins of looking around I figured it out. As far as I know it's stable as can be. If not then give me your problem and I'll fix it.

Anyway download this and extract the txt file into your freelancer\EXE\ directory.

Remember this one is for intel chipsets only, if you need your chipset fixed give me you Manufacturer and Model number and I'll look into it.

And as always feedback is great. Also if you have any problems feel free to contact me.

Excellent, I'll have to try that next time I have a chance. If it works, thanks a bunch. =)
