A solution to a unique multiplayer problem
Hi there,
First off I would like to say that this site has come along nicely and that it is really a good place for Freelancers all across the globe to come together and discuss.
Anyway, on to business. You see when browsing through the forums looking for an answer to my own problem, I've noticed that others have had the same but that there was never any solution to it.
The problem I mean is when you connect to a LAN game, the mouse starts stuttering and you can't see any games (including your own), and when you select the Internet variant, you just see 'Connecting to Global Server' forever and nothing else happens. [Edit: This is on Windows XP SP2, not Windows Vista, where I know these sorts of problems interact with the virusscan!
Now, I've had Freelancer for years and was always so bummed out that I couldn't play because of this, while my sibling could easily connect to anything while we were on the same router. Even turning off ipv6 didn't do a thing.
The problem was simple. McAfee 7.x. This security center seemed to be blocking out a certain stream I needed to play the game, and after updating it to 8.0 (the latest security center), everything worked perfectly. Although I had some problems uninstalling my old center (McAfee is known to cause problems in that area) I'm positive that thát is what changed it because believe me, I tried [bEVERYTHING in those years I've played to fix it.
You may ask yourself why I post this here since my own problem is solved but I knów how bummed out I felt and I hope that this solution may help others in enjoying the game as much as I am about to =)
Cheers mates!
