Suddenly cannot see any servers LAN or Internet?

The place to ask for technical help with running the demo or the full game...

Suddenly cannot see any servers LAN or Internet?

My roommate is hosting a net-accessible server. I have been playing it for quite some time. My other roommate has likewise been playing it. We have connected via LAN.

I am now suddenly unable to see any servers at all, LAN or Internet. I get the message "connecting to global server" while attempting to connect through Internet. My roommate's connection is fine.

I can see our server and other servers through Xfire, but cannot connect through that either. Internet users can still access our server fine. This problem is my computer specifically.

Additionally, my own server is no longer visible by LAN or Internet where they previously were.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Freelancer as well as my network card and reset my connections. There have been no changes to our network that caused this problem. DMZing myself has no effect. Port forwarding is in effect for the server's benefit but no changes have been made there either.

WTF yo?

Not possibly just your firewall maybe? I really dunno much about these issues am afraid, so since you've already listed most of my own usual fixes for people, I'm at a loss.

Well, the only firewall I have is the router firewall, which is permitting my other roommate's client as well as the server. Strangely enough I was able to connect earlier even when running PeerGuardian.

This is really getting on my nerves. What's REALLY pissing me off is that through Xfire I can see and even ping the server (varies between 2 and 9 ping) but Xfire won't connect me either.

Is there any way at all to bookmark/favorite a server? I know it's 12.216.67.70 externally and 10.0.0.11 internally...

Additional data: using FLQuick 1.2 and Crabtree's dedicated server tool, as well as FL's own fldirectip.hta, there is no effect. No servers show up for either menu. WTF?

New development: the server is now no longer visible on the 'net and my other roommate cannot connect either. No changes were made to the router settings or to either system.

This blows. We were in the process of developing a mod at our site (www.sunandshadows.com) and now I'm out of commission...

sounds desperate; maybe i can help a little with some random thoughts - although i would be the last person to call myself a competent network expert.
so, prefaced with As Far As I Know:

freelancer needs a UDP outbound port range open as well as TCP inbound, 2300-2304 namely

Network Address Translation may be the problem - that happens when the forwarding, virtual servers, etc are not set just so

the gateway IP address listed in your LAN's TCP properties should be the same as the router's gateway, at least thats how mine works and how i fixed a similar listing-problem

windows also has TCP/IP filters in the LAN cards properties, and inbound/outbound should be enabled

DMZ has never fixed a connection problem for me, and we've all heard how unsecure it is

if you're using a DHCP setup try setting up your connection as static
re static setup:
subnet masks actually vary depending on the local network IP, so having them all set to use the same 255.255.255.0 is wrong and they should be calculated instead(google subnet mask calculator)

again, it might not be accurate info but maybe it will inspire some different approaches to your problem

I believe all of this is set up.

I am seeing some interesting traffic when my roommate tries to connect. Lots of talk on port 2375?

Post Thu May 18, 2006 7:53 pm

Er, I'm having this exact same problem. =/

Internet play worked fine this morning for me, but ever since I uninstalled and reinstalled the game and activated Freeworlds, it hasn't worked.

I thought at first it was a problem with Freeworlds, but if you're having the same problem...might be an issue with the global server.

Strangely my roommate and I cannot see each others' servers even on LAN when we unplug the network; I cannot even see my own.

Which is teh ghey.

The global list server is making some problems these days

Post Fri May 19, 2006 12:03 pm

im using the Freelancer Web Launcher from EOA to connect to my friends server...and i think microsoft may have turned off the global server...or did something to it

Post Fri May 19, 2006 3:56 pm

Well if that's true, that sucks. Hopefully it's just temporary maintenance or something.

EDIT: I'm able to connect again...guess it was just maintenance.

Microsoft will not completely shut down Freelancer Global Servers as long as people are playing Freelancer in Multiplayer.
Should this happen then Microsoft will get some evil E-Mails ...
