Freelancer crash

I just installed Freelancer but every time I run the game it gets past the opening movie but when it goes to the loading freelancer screen it crashes after 6 seconds. can somebody please help me before i shoot my computer!?!?

Recmmend, the basics. Dowload and install SDK to correct any bad files, also check your video drivers, if they are up todate.
