NVIDIA vidio card trouble

Hi, im having troble playing freelancer

i have two computers and on one i have a ati card that runs the game great but with my new NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 the game boots to a black screen with sound but no vidio

i even switched the cards (for other reasons) and the same thing happens with the NVIDIA card.

this is okay cause i can still play the game but id like to be able to play on both of my computers

anyone know the problem and how to fix it?

With NVIDIA , you need the most current drivers for it.

There are known problems with freelancer when using the 5200. freelancer doesn't recognize the card. i had one in, couldn't play any games, so i put my old Radeon 7200 back in.

I have a GeForce Go 5200 FX in my laptop, and I have no problems at all. You might actually want to back-level one or two versions of the NV driver (I don't know for sure which version I'm running on my LT). FL popped up with the "unrecognized card" the first time I played it after installing, but even that time I didn't have any problems.

I have had the exact same issue with an NVIDIA 6600 GT. Unable to play Freelancer since I upgraded from the TI4600. If anyone has any other suggestions, I would love to hear them. I have tried various hardware settings for the card but nothing has worked for me. I'll be checking back here to see if anyone else has had success with this!

Thanks...

Man

turns out it wasnt the vidio card after all

it was my screen resolution

I'm using a 6600GT, and I'm not having any problems. That said, everything on this machine is up-to-date- DirectX, Windows XP, and I'm using the current Beta Drivers from nVidia (which also fixed my problems with MS3D crashing when attempting to initialize OpenGL, but that's another story).

Sooooo.... it's not the card, really. Check that your resolution/refresh rates are set to something logical, and look through your perfoptions.ini file, which you can find at:

"Name_of_Your_Windows_Identity" \My Documents\My Games\Freelancer

...or just do a Search of your comp's HD. It has settings for the video there. My settings:

[PerfOptions
-------------------> other stuff above this
general_graphics = 1.00
advanced_graphics = 0.00
default_graphics = 1.00

[Display
size= 1280, 960
color_bpp= 32
depth_bpp= 24
