game always crashes when it gets to loading screen

i beat this game on my old comp. i installed it just now on my new one. when i went to run it (without any mods), it told me it did not recognize my video card. i said continue anyways. now it crashes every time i get to the main loading screen (where it says "freelancer"

I have an ATI radeon x800 Pro (256 mb cache- could this be screwing up the game). i tried updating drivers, but it is all up to date. please help, since this is an awesome game and i really really want to play it. thanks.

I've never heard of an ATI Radeon x800 but with 256 MB I assume it's been out within the last few years.

Sometimes the newest drivers, especially video drivers, do not cut it with games old and new. Try going to the next older drivers, the ones released before the latest were released. I had to do this once because the latest video drivers were not WHQL certified but the next earlier version were - they worked.

If that doesn't work try installing/reinstalling DirectX. Or ratching down some of the features of the video card like hardware acceleration. Any of those little tweaking actions that may bring it on line when you least expect it to. Good luck.

I agree, try installing the latest Direct X, and it should work fine (I have a 9800 pro - doesn't know the card, but does run okay).

Personally, I would recommend a quick reinstall followed by a check on the save games folder - as they may still be left over. If there is anything in there, then delete it - as it could be the issue. Same with reinstall - if its not a brand new install - then try reinstalling it. Maybe try reinstalling it anyways
