I am not sure if anyone has, but it might be supported by a Windows emulator such as WINE. If you do find a way to run FL on Linux, let us know.

Did anyone ever actually try this? the thread seems a bit dead, but since Im playing with Ubuntu I'd like to know if its worth my efforts.

If I can get the few games I like to run under Ubuntu I am dumping Microsoft before they can force me to use the Vista crap that takes away my privacy rights.. (Or so Ive heard)

I'm sticking with xp. They can't make me change to Vista. They can't pay me to change. They can't force me to change. I'll sue and start world war III.
When they get Vista's bugs sorted out, I'll consider it. Until then...Vista is a bust.

Actually, if game developers can come up with suitable applications for LINUX including an awe inspiring game such as Freelancer...I'll switch to Linux. But, they're gonna have to get off their duffs and get busy.

I've been in IT for many years, since before Windows. Most people will not remember that IBM commissioned Microsoft to make OS/2 for them, and instead of doing that Microsoft developed Windows 3 in parallel. When OS/2 came out it was a bag of worms, and Windows 3 was a shiner, taking the carpet out from IBM's feet. IBM sued but sadly settled out of court for a mere $11million. I wish they had bought Microsoft instead.

Today the only reason I am keeping Windows is for Freelancer, I'm serious. Open Office runs under Linux, it is superb and does everything I need for my professional use, and so Linux is definitely on the cards as soon as I have done with Freelancer.
