i think this has been posted before but try reinstalling directx or if you have an earlier version update to 9.0b

Read up above in stickied threads, most likely a firewall. Have you granted access to the Freelancer.exe in your firewall settings yet? Please read the stickies and help topics up above on how to resolve your issues.

I can only select IP-ranges or adresses and websites to trust, does anybody know what Freelancer uses ?

Its not that easy, its a port that needs opening. The CD contains lots of info upon this sort of thing.

However, in server forum, or multiplayer there is a thread stickied that contains IP addresses of servers. YOu can try those...or lower firewall settings
