FL Still not loading

Hello all

OK I have tried every fix on these threads and I still can't get FL to load. It gets to the splashscreen then dumps me back to the desktop.

I have all the latest drivers for my fx 5700 (put on after a complete reinstall of my windows environment).

Is there something in the next generation cards that i should turn off?

I used to run an mx440 with no problems on FL at all.

Oh yes, I have not loaded any mods as of yet.

Have you updated your motherboard drivers? Are you running Direct X 9b? Finally, are you running Win XP service pack 1 or 1a?

Hello

Got the latest via 4 in 1 drivers (hyperion I think there called now).

DX9b is installed.

I have windows 2000 professional with service pack 4 and all the latest updates installed.

This is a shot in the dark...... Does your machine run normally after this problem happens? Do you have the DIVX Codec installed? The reason why I ask these two things is that it sounds like one of a number of things could be happening. Here they are from best to worst.
1. System overheating. If your machine runs fine after the problem happens, then that is not it.
2. Conflict with the DIVX codecs. These CODECS used in some internet video can cause conflicts with DirectX on some machines.
3. Check your AGP Arperture settings in your bios. It should be set for at least 128mb.
4. Is your system overclocked? If it is, step it down a couple of notches and try again.

I hope this has helped. I will continue to try and find a solution.

Hello Kingrat, many thanks for helping me whatever the outcome lol.

I have no problems with my system after this happens (I also don't overclock my system as it runs most things perfectly well). Had a look and I cant see any divx codecs on my system, if you have a list or link to the ones that cause the problems I can double check. AGP setting is on 256mb atm (but was changed from 128mb because of the problem).

This is the only game I have that does this. I have put on Tachyon, commanche 4, bloodrayne to name a few and they all run without problems.

I am also running Everquest without issue.

Sent a report to the card manufacturer but as yet I have had no reply.

How much RAM do you have in your system? You see, the AGP Arperature setting in your bios could be causing the problem. What this setting does is reserve an amount of your systems RAM to help your video card operate more efficiently when it is being taxed by a graphic intense program. So if you have your AGP setting at 256mb and you only have 256mb RAM for your system, the program will terminate because all of your system RAM is allocated to help your graphics card, and there is nothing there to run the program with.

Could you give me your system specs. It will help in determining a solution to the problem.

AMD Athlon 1.6ghz
768mb PC100 DDR RAM
160GB HD (diamondmax w 8mb cache)
geforce fx 5700 w 256mb
jetway motherboard (KT266A)
Soundblaster live player 5.1
DVD Player (samsung)
CD rewriter (unknown)
- Loaded through both players with the same problem.

only graphics card and HD have been updated since the last time I was able to run FL

Windows 2000 professional

FL is on the C: partition that has 30gb of the 160gb drive. Virtual memory hasnt been touched since the reboot.

Delete the savegame folder in your 'my games/freelancer' directory, back it up first though!!! that should fix the problem, if it did, e-mail me the folder and ill try and find the offending file

Ariana - Why didn't I think of that. I quess sometimes I get wrapped up thinking it is a hardware problem.

I hope this works for him.

yeah, i got the same problem when i had a Mod on, like the 'raven' mod. save a game and then turn the mod off and try to load the game up. It crashes because the savegame has a piece of data that isnt (now) in the .inis because the mod is off.

Thanks again to you both, unfortunately this solution hasn't worked because I've never actually got into the game since reinstalling it and I don't have a backup of my old fl savegames on the system yet.

To restate, as soon as i reinstalled the game (no mods or flmm installed) the game would boot me back to the desktop after the splashscreen.

Thanks again for all your help but im thinking that to play this game I may need to install the old graphics card (mx440). Shame I don't have two agp slots or my life would be a bit easier lol

Still not working, eh? Well I'll step in and see what I can do .

Boran - First things first, are you using a "No CD" patch?

Post Thu Jul 08, 2004 6:50 am

Hello Esquilax

Hehe no im not

Seriously, I am running a fully legit copy, it is not registered tho because I can't be bothered with the "passport" thing.

I was cruising the Microsoft web site and came accross this article about this problem. Here is the link: http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... -us;833534 . If I did not do the hotlink right, here is the URL written out: http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... -us;833534 I am still learning how to do the links here. There is also a link at the bottom of the page for another proceedure if this does not work.

I know your video card can run Freelancer, because I have a nVidia GeForce FX-5900 XT, and it runs Freelancer just fine. I hope this helps out.

Boran - Maybe you should try one; some people have been successful in fixing problems by using cracked EXEs. Also, which version of FL are you running? 1.0 or 1.1?
