brighness fix?

I recently got a new computer and now everything unfortunately is too bright. Ive adjusted the gamma to its lowest but my lcd display is naturally bright (contrast ratio 600:1) and i dont really want to change the desktop settings as the took ages to get right. Also initially the game says it doesnt recognise my 3d card (radeon 9800Pro). Its almost unplayable as the black is a faded purple which translates through the game. Any help would be really appreaciated...

Check your drivers for your video card. Then, if you know your motherboard's chipset, update that. Also ensure you Direct X 9b. This should fix most problems.

No matter where you hide, Methane Cloud, Ice Field, or Debris Field, the Rat will find you.

In addition to that, try installing newer drivers for your monitor, and also check the cable connections.
