Welcome to TLR, I hope you enjoy your stay. As far as I know, there is not a way to run media player at the same time as playing FL. That is because the game uses the some codecs as media player. I will try it with some other players out there and let you know.

This is not a technical query! Still...

The best way to play your own music is to simply rename your MP3s to the same names as the FL muesic files in your Freelancer folder. For example, if you wish to listen to a particular song while fighting in Liberty space, make a backup of "music_liberty_battle.wav" (I think that's it), and simply rename the other file to the same name. The only problem is that FL likes the files to be mixed in a certain way, and they must be MP3 .WAV files. I forget exactly which format FL likes, but you should be able to find out by searching in the "General Editing" Forum.

Esq. - I never thought about that. I think I am going to have to give it a try. I think some good hard rock in the background as I hunt nomads.

The method outlined above is basically what I did for SWMM (the Star Wars Music Mod), and it worked really well. Of course, I had to transfer the tracks from the CD, convert them, edit them, mix them, and then convert them again .

Why don't you just use winamp? That's what I used to play music in the background and it ran just fine.

I am just an imbecile,
I will only complicate you,
Trust in me and fall as well.

The only problem is that running a second program in the background will degrade performance, even though it may barely noticable on faster machines. Besides, the in-game music will still be there.
