Fix for nVidia Card Problems for both the Geforce 4 and FX s

I have seen several posts reguarding problems running Freelancer with the FX Series video cards from nVidia. I had the same problem with my FX5900 XT, but I found a fix that has worked on not only my computer but a couple of friend's machines as well. Just for a configuration reference, I will include my system specs at the end. The fix is kind of long so bear with me.

First of all, you need to ensure that your motherboard chipset drivers are up to date. This is important because these drivers tell you Motherboard how to use all the onboard features properly. Having updated MOBO drivers also improves the efficiency in wich your MOBO operates. You can download these drivers for free from your motherboard manufacturer's web-site. If you know your Motherboard's chipset, you can download the updated driver form the chipset manufacturer. Located here:

Intel Chipset Website

Now if you do not have the most up to date service pack for your OS installed, do so now. Then ensure you have DirectX 9.0b installed. Next ensure that you have the most up to date driver for your sound card installed. Finally, if you have the DivX codec on your machine, remove it. The latest version of this codec can cause graphic intensive programs not to run properly.

Next install the most up to date drivers for your video card. You can get them from your cards manufacturer or from nVidia as well. I used the reference driver from nVidia for my graphics card instead of downloading it from the manufacturer.

Finally, ensure that your Free Lancer install does not have the patch applied. For some reason the patch does not work and play well with these graphic cards. Also install the Free Lancer SDK available from this web site in the downloads section.

This SHOULD fix the problem. If not, let me know and I will try to help you out. Thanks for your patients and good luck.
