nVidia cards and nebulae

I thought upgrading from a GEForce2 to an FX5200 video card would give me much better performance in the areas of the game where you're in a cloud or nebula. But the performance is still awful. Does anyone know if there's any fix for this other than using a completely different brand of video card? I've been told that it's the result of the way the nVidia cards do "fog" - which looks great but is slow.

Battles in nebulae get much more difficult because the ship doesn't maneuver properly with the video card slowing things down so much.

I still managed to play the whole story line in under 17 hours of game play, but sections with nebulae - and explosions that occupy most of the screen - make maneuvering and fighting difficult.

Pentium 4, 2.1GHz
768MB RAM
Albatron FX5200 128MB video card
DirectX 9.0b
Windows XP
1024x768x32bit mode

I can't find anything in the game settings which would help, but perhaps someone knows of something "under the hood"?

I had a similar problem, Are you running the latest version of your bios??

I had to update mine, (just incase you do update - remeber you have to activate them in the display section of the control pannel)

Do you mean updating the video card BIOS? I recently updated the motherboard BIOS but not the vidoe card. Why would you need to activate it in the control panel - BIOS changes ought to be detected at boot?

*bump*

Why did my post disappear after only a couple of days? I was looking at the "forum posts for the last 30 days" and this thread was gone. I had to look at the last 60 days to find it. :-7
