Lagging server

I`ve got a Athlon XP 2,6, 512 MB Ram, nForceboard and a Radeon 9500 and Freelancer is running fine, IN SINGLEPLAYER!
But when i open a server and play on it, the enemies are lagging, its looks like im playing with a 33.6 modem on the internet. But i have a 100 MBit Network and no running firewall.
How can i fix this problem?

the way a server behaves is relative to the hardware it is build on and the amount of players there are playing plus of course the bandwidth it has available

If for example a server has a Full T1 connection and 30 players are on it every player only has the theoretical equivalent of a 33.6k modem if it would update all at the same time . your connection speed has not much to do with at this point

My best advice is to try a few servers that are in a low ping range (50-100) and see which work out best for you

I know you have to remove the refrigerator door when placing it at the curb , but then the neighbours kid would get away for sure , damn moral dillema's

using a mod on a clean non-moded server(usually the beam mod) can cause that.

if your trying to lan in on the same machine your hosting on, it can be detrimental to how it runs, and create its own lag

hmmmmm, i am playing on the same machine the server runs, but the problem is on my client too ....

playing the server on the same machine the client is installed is not recommended. This tidbit is right on the CD in a readme file.

Try configuring the computer in the display settings to reduce the resolution and turn off all the gismos that by default are enable in Windows in relation to appearance.
