ATI card slow down.

The place to ask for technical help with running the demo or the full game...

ATI card slow down.

I finally decided to look at a forum when i could not resolve this issue.
System:
AMD 1700+
MSI Mobo
768 PC133 SDRAM
ATI Radeon 8500 128MB
SB Live 5.1
80 gig WD
Dual Boot - Windows XP HE and Windows ME
DirectX 9.0( i know, but i thought i should put it here anyway....)

Oddly, I started having this problem right after I finished the single player campaign on 12/10. First thing I saw was the menus were really slow coming up when I entered the game. Then I got into the last SP save, everything was slow, about 10% of the speed of what I am use to.
I reinstalled DirectX 9, that didn't fix it.
I did a repair install on Windows XP HE, that didn't fix it.

I copied the shortcuts over to my Windows ME installation and it worked, flawlessly, smooth just like it use to be in XP

So, I went back to XP, downloaded the new ATI Drivers last night, installed the updated drivers, updated control panel, then I reinstalled DirectX.

That fixed the menu problem, menus are close to being as fast as normal. BUT, in-game, I still get the same slowness. Very slow, just like before.

So:
New drivers fixed the problem with the main menu, now it is fast again.
It DID NOT fix the problem in-game.
So, I am doing a full install on the Window ME side of my system and going to continue in free form and play on my FE server with the NG MOD.
Bummer is, I loose my character on the NG MOD.

As I was writing this, I started a new SP game on my game machine and even the cut scenes of the freeport station blowing up are slow.

I will be getting a new card next spring, getting this issue resolved will determine if I get another ATI card or a new Geforce.
I love this game, nothing beats it out there in the Space Action(Sim) Genre.

You can e-mail me directly at [email protected] for comments or questions.

Whatever, Radeon is the preferred graphics for Half Life 2.
If you read my post, you will notice I tried everthing in the now closed topic above this one.
I have technically went beyond that post also.

I stand corrected. there's some fps issues with the GeForce MX Titanium, but that's it!
