Windows Media Codecs

Ive reinstalled Freelancer after an OS reinstall (damn blaster worm) and when i tried to start it it bombed back to windows. i discovered, after reading through this forum, it was because i didnt have the codecs to play the movies at the start of the game (the logos and intro). Can someone tell me exactly what codec i need to play these files?

FL runs three WMV movie files in the beginning. In the freelancer.ini file under Freelancer/EXE you can see a Startup section which lists the three movies run at the beginning of FL. If you want to not run some or all of those movies and have FL start quicker, just place a semicolon ( ; ) before any of the three movie_file lines.

Of course if the rest of FL runs more WMV movie files they won't run until you install the correct codecs.

EDIT: The semicolon and closed parantheses gave me

Hi.

I didn't realise that the movies were WMV but now I think about it that makes total sense. I don't know if this helps, but I used to train people in windows media encoding etc and I know that you can find all of the players/codecs/encoders etc that you might need at this link
