Problems with GeForce FX

Hi there!

I've got an annoying problem that's almost killing me
Every time i start the Game, a Window pops up and tells me that Freelancer hasn't correctly recognized my Graphics Card (ASUS V9560/TD / GeForce FX 5600).

If i click on "OK" the Game starts, but sometimes it crashes after the Intro cinematics or in the middle of the Game (Docking or leaving a Planet/Station).
Does anybody know if there's a Patch or anything that fixes this prob?

btw, these are my systems specs:

AMD Athlon XP 2600+
GeForce FX 5600
512 MB DDR-RAM, PC 333 (Corsair, Dual-Channel)
nForce 2 Mainboard (Asus A7N8X)
Creative SoundBlaster Live Player! 1024

My OS is Windows XP Professional with SP 1 installed and i have the latest Vid/Mainboard- Drivers installed.

thx for helping me out

1)is the window the one that says u haven't got the latest drivers installed or just a window saying that u have this graphics card?

2) do you have the latest Direct X...Direct X 9b?

I have installed DirectX 9b several times now so i think the problem isn't the DX 9 but my Graphics Card.

The Game itself is generating the message just after running the shortcut on my desktop. It says, that it cannot correctly recognize my Graphics Card and that FL could/would run incorrectly.

I have the choice of "OK" - the Game starts just to kick me back to the desktop just before the main menu is loaded.
Sometimes the game runs (after 5 or 6 times installing and uninstalling, that is...)
but i'm being kicked out in the middle of the Game ("NOOO!!! My precious loot....*sob*)

"Cancel" - well, no explanation needed, i guess

I checked the flconfigdatabase.txt in the "exe\" directory to see if my card is mentioned somewhere, but nada - nothing at all.
The Cards listed there under nVidia were from GeForce 2 MX to Ge Force 4 Quadro.

I couldn't find a suitable patch or a fix for this problem.
It seems like i have to wait till there's a patch for GeForce FX cards out there.

This really suxx

maybe you just messed up your DX installation that could be a reason why it won't start??!?!

yea it is proberbly a messed up Direct X 9b install...you could also try re-installing the latest drivers....another thing....are you using mods?

I was thinking that too, so I installed DX 9 again.
I even checked all apps related to DX with dxdiag but there was no problem. Other Games using DX are running just fine, so I'm sure that it must be the Game itself.

I'd like to post a screenshot here but since I'm from Germany my OS and the Game itself is in German. I'll try to translate it so you can "see" what's exactly stressing me out.

The Window that pops up is a Warning from Freelancer.
It looks like this:
_____________________________________________________________________
Freelancer Critical Warning
_____________________________________________________________________
Freelancer does not recognize your 3D-Graphics Card and
might run incorrectly

Do you want to continue ?

Yes No

/X/ Check every time the Application is started
______________________________________________________________________

By the way: I tried to run the Game "raw" without Mods and in a modded Version.
Both ways failed and i'm still being kicked out while the "Freelancer" - Banner appears on the Screen (just before the Main Menu is being displayed).

I tried several different Detonator Drivers too, but they didn't work either.
Before I had the GeForce FX, I used a GeForce 4 4400 and it worked.
So I presune - regarding to that damn Window - that there is a problem with FL and my VCard.

Aaaargh - Here I am, in the middle of my vacation - trying to relax with a little FL-Tour from Manhattan to the Omicron-Systems and now this...
Not my week, I guess

HA!

It was my VCard to begin with!
I've had enough and borrowed a GeForce 3 from a buddy of mine - et voilà - the problems gone.

I'll keep the Card until ... well, until a patch or fix is available to solve this (whenever this may be...).

Anyways thx to all who tried to help me.
Especially {AR}X-Treme.
