What do you do when a new version of an old favorite crashes

I have the Flrebalance V2.01 mod, and it is great. When I downloaded V3.0, I of course removed 2.01 and installed V3.0. It crashes before getting to the main menu screen. The first thing I did, of course, was to delete any autosaves, then tried again. I uninstalled everything (including Freelancer), and reinstalled everything. Every time I get the same thing. What else can I do to get it working? Freelancer is one of the best games I have ever played, and I love modding.

Are you using the Mod Manager?

Must be a glitch with the mod.

Or your comp is not compatable with the new one.

Could be DirectX9.0
Download the upgrade for DX9 and it might work...

Thanks for the ideas, guys. The upgrade to the Direct X 9.0b worked. It's running now.
