Hostile Universe v.8 problem

Hi there,

I've just installed the above mentioned mod and am generally happy with it (appart from the fact that I had to start the game from the beginning of course, but that can't be helped). I have, however, encountered a small problem. When trying to buy any of the new ships, the game crashes and I'm thrown out to the Windows desktop (with the innevitable Error Reporting Tool dialog popping up). Any thoughts or suggestions about this problem? It occurs as soon as I click on the Buy Ship button.

Thanx!

I was playing this mod for a good number of hours before it just started up crashing with me lately. I'm at the mission through Kyushu before the Proteus Tome. I'm even flying a stock Freelancer ship at the moment. I hate to say it but this may be one of the best mods but is the worst I've encountered with crashing. What I would do is first de-activate the mod. Then unistall Freelancer. Re-install Freelancer, then DX9b, then if you really want to get ultra cautious delete the mod from the mod manager and re-install that. Then activate the mod again with no other mods used. Also, I've noticed that some of my saves, normally the last one or the auto-save seam to get corrupted or something where it crashes everytime. I had to go back a couple saves to fix that one. I definetly suggest saving your progress EVERY STOP. I flew for about 2 hours today, didn't save and my auto-save got screwed off. Totally wasted time. Supposedly, the creator knows about some of these bugs and hopefully he can find what exactly is doing it. I know one bug is if you take certain freelance mission it crashes. It's listed to just abort that mission next time around and try a different one. Not exactly the fix I would hope for from such an excellent mod but really, too many more crashes and I'm going back to Rebalance. I'm actually going to try what the microsoft help page suggests where you turn down both your DX acceleration for sound and video, no extra video utilities, etc.. I doubt that's going to help but I'm game for anything right about now.

Ah, I actually fixed my V8 HU pretty well. I don't get any crashes except one a couple hours into playing. I actaully made some ground and finished the single player. I'll try to explain exactly how I did it but I may forget something. Basically it's unistall everything and re-install. I unistalled the mod (and deleted it), unistalled freelancer, unistalled my Cat 3.6 for my 9700, unistalled Fraunhoefer codec, and Creative MP3 codec (probably was the problem with 320kps support), booted up with a start up disk (winME), re-installed windows, re-installed all DX up to 9b, installed WMA 8 & 9 codecs, installed Cat 3.4's, installed Freelancer, then installed the mod fresh, and used my previous saved games. I also have limited my settings to 2x samples AA, and 4:1 AF in quality mode all around. Go to 4x sampleing and you get crashes. Basically everything has been pretty good since. My System.ini does show a L3Codec whatever listed but apparently it's not too much of a problem. I hope this might help. I didn't want to do too many registry fixes myself and was trying to find a simple more conventional way to fix this. Still a little buggy though. I also have EAX enabled and 3D sound turn on. I've found setting the settings higher for my system runs the game better.

You re-installed windows? I frankly think that was going a bit overboard. Although the thought has crossed my mind to re-install ME as well for my problem...
