Cannot run Freelancer

Help, I had to reformat my hard drive and now Freelancer refuses to work. Tried all of the fixes on the MS site, tried the Frauenhoffer driver update as well and it still does not work. It installs fine and then when you click on the accept on the EULA, it goes to a black screen and locks up the computer

Comp Specs
Pentium 1.2 ghz
Geforce 3 video
SB Live 5.1 card
256 MB RAM

Anyone have any ideas? I haven't been able to play Freelancer in a month and I am Jones'n.

Yep it's me.
Who else would it be.

computer: you probably have scratched/dirty cd.
the rest of you: my guess would be ether the same as computer's, or try reinstalling. also, try right-clicking the Freelancer folder and going to properties and making it NOT read-only that should help...

I have definetly the same problem with the "Blank Screen" under Win98 and i think it´s my Geforce3 Videocard. I installed the game also under Win2k and it crashed to desktop several times after a few minutes.

my system:
AMD 2500+ Barthon
Asus A7N8X Deluxe
TwinMos 512MB RAM
Geforce 3

My drivers are all updated...

I hope anyone can help us with that problem !!!

Saw this out there....

I found myself with the freelancer black screen problem
that so many seem to have with the Nvidia 43.45 drivers.
I got this fix from Microsoft. It seems if you disable
the intro movies, the game will run fine. I am including
the instructions they gave me. Mine is working great now,
good luck with yours. Here it is:

If you notice that the issue still persists, please try
disabling the opening movie in the game and check if you
are able to start and play the game successfully.

To disable the intro movies in Freelancer, please use the
steps below:
----------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------

Edit the Freelancer.ini file located in Freelancer\EXE
folder and place ";" in front of the movie code lines.

[Startup
;movie_file = movies\MGS_Logo_Final.wmv
;movie_file = movies\DA_Logo_Final.wmv
;movie_file = movies\FL_Intro.wmv

To find the folder where Freelancer is installed on the
system, please use the steps below:

1. Right Click on the Freelancer icon on Desktop and
click Properties.
2. Click on Find Target under the Shortcut tab. This will
open the folder where Freelancer is installed.
3. Once this folder is opened, find the freelancer.ini
file and follow the steps listed above to edit the file.

Please try playing the game after this and then check if
you are able to play the game without any issues.

Hope it helps

Hi there, i've made the changes to the ini file as recommended but am still getting a blank screen whenever i try to load an MP game.

Strangely the single player works fine any recommendations would be gratefully received

Thanks

um....

have you got a hardware or software firewall?

It *could* be the firewall is preventing Freelancer from connecting to the outside world, so the game hangs pending connection.

McAfee did this to me.....now sorted.
