The place to ask for technical help with running the demo or the full game...

Sound Buggy

I wasn't sure if the sticky is for the sound problem I face so I didn't risk it. Anyway.

Does anyone know why ths problem occurs and how to fix this problem.

Every so often Freelancers sound is fine and normal and the whole game runs smooth. But after a couple of times loading Freelancer the sound turns choppyish like itwill play the sound but goes tih tih tih all the time and when fly the space is also like its going tih tih tih as I fly this becomes REALLY noticeable in the Trade Lanes and really bugs the **** outta me so anyone csare to help.

have you installed the codec from the redist directory of the CD?
If that doesn't work try to copy the l3codeca.acm from http://www.station-network.de into ../freelancer/EXE
I think that this file should be on lancersreactor too.

Do you have a SB live/audigy etc? As its an old problem with them in 2k/XP. You get crackling in all audio after playing for a while.

Only help is the normal making sure you have the latest drivers and possibly making sure you sound card isnt in PCI slot 1 as that shares an IRQ with the AGP slot so will affect performance in intensive games.

Not sure of sound card, pretty sure it aint SB.

The crackling/****iness only comes along every so often or if I use a mod.

How about you tell us ALL the specs of your system and your Operating System.

ok then its a mod issue, I went through a spate of trying them and they fubared the audio files. Some audio clips just dont play well again.

So what I do now is make a clean install of FL, then make a copy of the game folder and keep that safe. Then if I try a mod that fubars the audio or models its just a case of copying back the folder.

Someone with two posts thinks everything on my Comp+ OS will actually be useful... OMG!

I already ruled out my hardware and OS as its all updated and I have no problems with anything else.

Therefor it has to be a file problem of somesort. The above poster who mentioned fubaring seems to have hit the nail on the head. Do you get fubaring every so often even when no-mods are used?

Only when trying mods, found that the early rebalance type mods changed the audio and uninstalling them didn't return the audio back to what it was, so required a reinstall to fix it.
