SiS chip people - no good

The place to ask for technical help with running the demo or the full game...

SiS chip people - no good

I have been told by Microsoft online support that SiS 730s 16MB WIN Compat - is no good to run Freelancer. It does not appear on their site for 3d's that do not work but that is their answer. Sorry spend 200 Euro's and upgrade your system~. This has to illegal in some way. The box says nothing on the min requirements about all these issues. That must be false advertising, product representation. Does anybody know a lawyer they can ask?? How many people now have a copy of Freelancer they cannot get rid off?

Really pissed off

Muppets - you can get gfx cards that are better than your integrated card for around 40€ - which is less than the game typical costs.

Integrated graphics are really not very good for ANY 3D game regardless of what is stated on your hardware box. There are now MANY games that would not run on emulated card with shared memory, not only FL.

So my advice would be to go out and by close to the cheapest nVidia card, and with a bit of luck you should be able to find a Geforce 4 MX440 (which is not a quick card by todays standard, but still performs a LOT better than yours) for around 50€ or a GF3 Pro for around 150€. The latter would propably be overkill considering your Celeron processor, but might give a lot power back to your CPU...

Thanx for the reply!! I have a question !

Is the Prophet range from Hercules (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/ ... s_140.html)

any good?

I can get the Prophet 7000 64MB for 60 Euro's. I don't want to go crazy with upgrades etc as I use my system for many boring things (work, files etc!) but it would be nice to have the ability to run some of the big 3D games.

I have a AMD Duron(tm)1300MHz and 256MB Ram but I am fairly ignorant of what goes on inside so am not sure what is worth upgrading and if it is worth it.

I would love to run Freelancer and alike but don't wish to go mad to make it happen!!

Any advice would be gratefully received!!

Avoid the Hercules series like the plague.

While they are great for 3d modelling, CAD/CAMM use etc, i have found they arent up to scratch when it comes to gaming.
I have a prophet 4500 (old i know) that cant even run Diablo 2 in 3d.

By all means try it out, it may do the job, but just make sure you can return it if your not happy.

Just my $0.02, but it could just be the cardamine talking.

No it's cool just what I what to find!

I see alot of people who recommend G force products. But I also see alot of people who are having problems with that!

I have 60 - 100 Euro's ($same) but obviously do not want to get a new 3d card and find out that i still have problems. I am a techno idiot (you need to get a ship through russian or columbian customs and keep your shirt and pants ok, I'm your man!!) and know butt all about computers, tough to know what to do!!

Get either a 64 meg nVidia card, or an ATI...They seem to be the ones that work best.

I built a new rig for my son, similar to yours, AMD 1.4 Duron 256mb RAM, onboard sound and graphics, disabled the onboard vga in the BIOS, and put a GeForce MX440 64mb in, used 41.09 drivers from the Nvidia archive, DX9 from the FL disk, ran FL no problem on on WinME. The card cost £32, which is about 40 Euros me thinks. Set it to best performance, no AA, vert. sync. off by default.

..you think you're done with the past; but the past isn't done with you..

Try here: http://www.asusdirect.nl/

There are a few nVidia cards in your range (all the GeForce cards are nVidia cards...)

The V9520/MagicT/128M for 79€ seems like a great buy... Asus is also pretty good in their support, but use the nVidia refference drivers...
