Mission Objective Does Not Come Up (SPOILER FOR MISSION 3?)

I'm currently in mission 3. On the way back to California Minor from the Willard Station, we are stopped by some Rheiland (sp?) Military fighters. Then a cut-scene plays (I hear no dialogue, must be my drivers, but I don't think this is the problem). Anyways, from the Walkthrus and FAQs I've read, these fighters are supposed to turn hostile and attack. Then the mission objective is to destroy them.

Instead, what happens for me is that after the cut-scene, the fighters just sit there remaining neutral. I bring up my mission objective, but all it says is that it is "waiting for mission objective". I can fly around space all day, but do nothing else, like docking. When I try to attack the Rheiland fighters, the game ends because the ships are still considered "neutral".

So I am stuck.

Help?

In fact the sound problem is what causes these ships not to turn hostile.
You will need to download a new driver for your sound card.

Check the spoiler forum for full details (search on sound problems I think)

Darkside's comment about RAMing the ships will obviate the need for you to fix the sound problem.
