rebalance1.4b sound problems

I have looked through the previous topics and can't find what i am looking for.

I have a

AMD Athlon XP 2100 +
512MB DDR ram
GF4MX 420/64MB
80GB hardrive
OS = windows XP

Normally freelancer sound works fine with all the details maxed out. I have installed this mod and have access to all the ships and everything but whenever i take off all the sound slows down (music sound fx speach the lot). Even when i have reduced all the detail and graphics resolutions to there minimum.

Is there a simple way (as in i am not technically gifted) method of restoring the sound back to how it should be.

Might be worth mentioning you sound card mate. Your requesting help on a sound problem, and you listed all you equip but that!

The sound card is built into the mother board when i look at the hardware it says

VIA AC'97 Audio so i assume thats the sound card part.

OK.
The AC97 is probably not your problem. It's about as standard as they come. How did you install the mod? The out-of-zip method is buggy. Some people have overwritten their FL installation with the mod. Seem to work, but used the 'fix R/O attributes so FLMM can handle it' version, which is posted around these forae.

All I can say is that I play regularly on a 1.4b MP server, and i've never heard anyone mention this particular problem.

I did read somewhere on LR about a certain codec (german sounding name) that made sounds slow. Have a quick search.

I used FLMM but i had to go through lots of files removing the read only bit i tried putting everything in manually once before and it just refused to load but i hadnt removed the read only bit at that point. I'll try looking for that other topic you mentioned.
