Game Startup problem

I've this very annoying problem:
When i use the latest nvidia-drivers the game won't start-up. The screen just goes blank where the intro-movies are supposed to be and i have to reset the computer. I've posted this problem with microsoft, but they say just work with an older driver. Okay the game works, but the graphics *SUCK* big time and the computer is very unstable.

Has anyone got the same problem or a solution?
THNX

ps. i tried all tricks, like un-/reinstalling game and reinstalling os, starting up with absolutely no backgroundprograms, and updating all drivers

What are drivers have you tried.. what did you roll back to and what are you talking about when you say newest?

Post Sat Jun 07, 2003 7:51 am

Old drivers are:
detonator 28.??, 30.82 <- these work, but buggy

the 28.?? driver came with my graphics card whic is an
elsa gladiac 920 (geforce3)

New drivers are:
43.45,43.51,44.03 <- the last one is the very newest by nvidia
and as i said with these drivers the game won't work

i switched back and forth between these drivers

Maybe this info can bring some answers:
Mainboard: Epox ep-4b2a
Chipset: Intel845
Sound: Avance On-Board
Graphics: Elsa Gladiac 920 (geforce3) 64Mb
Memory: 256Mb @ 133MHz
CPU: Intel PIV 2.0Ghz
HDD: Seagate BarracudaIV 80Gb
Other:
Pinnacle PCTV (tv-card)
Dynalink LAN-card
Pinnacle Firewire-card
LG DVD-rom
Plexwriter cd-writer

And NO there are NO hardwareconflicts.

HI, I just wanted to second this problem. I'm having exactly the same issues with the Nvidia Detonator drivers. Although it seems that their 41.09 drivers did work, any update since then has not. I always start the game and immediately after the screen resolution changes it freezes completely and I have to restart. I'm currently using nvidias 44.03 drivers and they still have the same problem. But, every other game I have has absolutely no problems. I'm using Win 98se, MSI GeForce 4 4200Ti, Sound Blaster Live Value, AMD 1800+ XP, 512mgs DDR RAM, etc. This is not a simple problem and I'm not about to curtail the performace of my system for one buggy game. Please help?????

hmm.. I just checked- using the 4109 driver with the ti4200.. can always send it to you if your having trouble finding it- could be a problem on nvidia's end cause the game's good using 4109.. doubt your getting better performance with the newer ones anyway- I'm running on a really old 700 full details overlocked at 1024

actually between the ati radeon 8500 I got and the geforce 4.. the radeon kicks it's ass after tweaks = image quality can't be matched with the 16x ansiotropic

For those of you who wish to experiment with nVidia Detonator driver versions for all nVidia video cards, there is a site out there that contains ALL the driver versions. Here's the URL:

http://www.guru3d.com

Worfy, I feel for you. I'm using just about the same stuff with the exception that I have the AMD Athlon 1500+ XP. The 41.09 drivers were decent, but I just obtained the unoffical 44.10 Detonator drivers from that site, and I haven't run into any problems yet. Hope it may help you all in the quest to find the perfect drivers for the game.

Thorondor,
I'm experiencing similar problem to you. Game does play with Critical Warning: "...does not recognize 3D sound card". However, game graphics are dark. I can barely see the images in the foreground.

If you get a fix for your problem or have any suggestions please contact me at [email protected]. I've basically bought a new computer in anticipation of playing this game. Ouch!

I've tried the 41.09, and it works for me. Irecommend it.
I haven't tried the 44.10 (yet)

Yes, it apparently is a conccurent fact that the 41.09 detonator drivers do in fact work. Apparently nvidia changed something substantial in all the following versions that, in turn, screws with Freelancer. I get the detonator drivers right from the source www.nvidia.com. Thus far, no update has fixed this problem. I did try what was reccomened though. The going into the dacom.ini and changing "DirectX8 ; implements IID_IRenderPipeline, IID_IVertexBuffer under dx8" to DirectX9, saving and then after getting the error, changing it back to 8. That actually did work, but I don't want to have to do that every single time. Hopefully someday someone will come up with a true solution. I doubt Microsoft will; considering their past. But there's still a remote chance.

Well, thats weird. A friend of mine and me, we have almost the same comp. Only mine is "cleaner", as I formatted not long ago. We both use the latest nvidia drivers (44.03 i think), with exactly the same vid card. He can run freelancer, I can't. We have the same OS, the same vid card...
