Freelancer reboots unexpectedly

First, let me say, I love the site. I've been enjoying the information now for quite a few weeks.

Here's my situation. I've got Windows XP sp 1 with an AMD 2500+, 1 GB os Kingston HyperX memory, Visiontek Geforce 4 MX 420, and a Hercules Game Theater XP sound card. I also have sound issues, but mine are to the extent that the machine will reboot on me for now reason. I'll be playing along and out of no where, it just reboots. I've tried all the sound fixes listed here and I've also gone as far as rebuilding my machine. I still haven't been able to fix it. Has anyone else ever ran into this issue?

it sounds like a heat problem inside ya machine or ya mother board drivers (VIA)ure hercules sound card as there a good card but cause some probs with xp driven machines(sound card drivers)as the hercules runs from ya prosessor instead of straight off ya sound card

hope this helps

Thanks, I'm actually running an Asus A7N8X Deluxe motherboard with the sound disabled. I'm using the stock heatsink and fan that came with my retail AMD 2500+ CPU. According to AMD, I'm not allowed to use any other type of cooling system as it will void my warranty. So, it appears I'm out of luck in that department. Also, this is the only game that has this issue. I've played other games that are way more graphic intensive and I haven't had this issue. I just figured with all the other people reporting sound issue, that mine might fall into that mix somewhere.

Rebooting is usually caused by a hardware conflict.

Try this:
Right click on my computer > Properties > Advanced > under startup and recovery uncheck "Automatically restart" click ok a few times to get back to the desktop.

When it happens again, it wont restart but cause a STOP error, you will get a blue screen of death and have to press the reset button but it should say what file caused the fault! (The file is usually a driver) report back with the "Stop error code" it should be something like 0x00000 and the name of the file that caused the crash. This could help us find out whats causing the problem...
