Have you used any mods and are now trying to go back to the regular game?

System specs?

No, I'm not trying to run the game without mods, and yes I'm using mods.

My system specs are:

AMD Athlon XP 1900+
256 MB RAM
nVidia GeForce 4 Ti 4200
Hercules Gamesurround 5.1

Running Windows 2000 Professional.

had the same prob, reinstalled and it works fine now, i think its about using backups while mods are still on

i get similar as well,
FL crashes back to the desktop after using the ESC key to get by the intro movie,
but when i keep the Klingon Destroyer v1.01 mod active and installed with FLMM v1.01 its OK,
used other mods as well,
anyone have any ideas?
will try backing up my game files and re-install FL over to see what happens, then uninstall and reinstall if that is needed.

sorted klingon prob from earlier post, un/re-install did not work, sold the D7, did
a couple more missions, backed up all the .fl files, replaced in new install, then deleted the older files till it worked OK. (one at a time, then ran FL to check)
i installed the latest SW ship pack with FLMM after the rebalance mod v1.0b,
and guess what, ships incompatible with rebalance,
So, deactivated all mods,
opened mods folder, backed up SW to a safe place,
deleted SW from FLMM, then copied the SW ships directories into -
Freelancer\data\ships, and what do know, jedi fighter rocks!
working on M/Falcon & Whitestar Cruiser, anyone got them working yet?

I had same prob. You can fix it by reinstalling, removing any mods you used previously. also remove any saved games in which you are using a mod. (if you say used a downloaded mod/ship, and dont wanna lose savegame, just sell that item/ship, save, and delete the old one)

As far as I know the game checks at start if the savegames (single player) are compatible with the current installation (possibly only checks the autosave). If found incompatible the game crashes back to windows. So I'd suggest to simply rename the savegame folder and retry.
