Can''t get freelancer to work again after running once or tw

Hello All! I have this strange problem with Freelancer and I'm hoping one of you can help me solve it. Here are my system specs:

AMD Athlon XP 2200+
512MB DDR
ATI Radeon 9000
O/S: Windows 2k Pro

Anyhow, I have no problems in the game itself. It runs very nicely. But after I install it, I can run it once, maybe twice...but if I exit and try to run it a third time, all I get is an hourglass for a split second and then the game doesn't launch. I've tried putting the CD in and clicking PLAY but that has the same results. The only way that I can get the game to work again is by reinstalling it. I like the game, and I'd like to play some more, but having to reinstall it every time I want to sit down and play it is getting to be a real pain. I've read a few other posts on other forums with people with the same issue, but nobody every replied to them on it. If you have any info on this, please let me know. Thanks.

Virtual memory setting maybe? Out of hdd space maybe? Severly fragmented hdd maybe?

No, No, and No. But thanks anyway for the input!

Youve got DirectX 9.0 installed?

Direct X 9.0a is what I have installed...

I'm not sure if 2k is the same but in XP there is a "feature" called Prefetch which is supposed to make regularly used programs load faster.

See if you have a folder C:\Windows\Prefetch (Or whatever your windows folder is) and if you have, Delete everything in it.

Its only an idea and have no idea if it will work or make any difference, or even if 2k has a prefetch folder.

Have a look in the system temp folder (default will be c:\windows\temp\) for a file named something like '~f1d055.tmp', there may also be a folder with a similar name - delete/move these files and folders.

You'll find you can now restart FL - well, it worked for me anyway.

Interesting feedback folks and good thinking about the temporary files. Weird, the way WinXP remember proggies we use frequently being a problems....hmmm. Who'da thunk that?
