Messed up Installation prob, plz help

When I first tried to install the game I got this error:

Freelancer Setup encountered a disk error while writing to
the file ***. Make sure your hard disk is
not full, and that the file is not in use.

I thought it was the CD, so I exchanged it for another. When I tried to install the game again, I got the same error but it was a different file and % completion. I then thought it didn't like my CDrom. I copied the game onto my C drive. I tried installing again and the same error pops up, different file and %. I then copy it to drive D (also HDD) and it has the same problem.

Someone help! The closest I got was 86% before the bug comes up. Everytime I try to install I get the error at random times during the install.

I'm using WindowsXP by the way. I wish developers stuck to a plain origonal installation program, instead of something fancy.

State Your Hard Disk Drives Type, name, How long You have Been using it, last scandisk date, how many partitions, how many freespace left and all other system specs...

personally i think there is a bad sector on your HDD and I suggest you scandisk your hdd thourughly.. if your HDD is as large as 10 GB or more then i suggets doing it at night before you sleep and let the pc turned on till next morning.

then again if you are using xp there might be some security issues but i bet you shold provide the necessary info first to determine your HDD is healty or not.
