mission 3, respond to station willard, comp crashes, ATI mob

The computer reboots itself every time i do this mission. I fly in formation with the convoy, then just as we are about to engage some fighters it flashes up with a blue screen for an instant then restarts the computer.

My specs are:

P4 2.2
256MB Ram
Win XP
ATI MOBILITY 6 32MB Graphics

Any help would be very much appreciated,

Phil Smith

I'm having this same problem on my laptop. I'm bumping this to see if we can get a response.

BTW, I made it past this point once, somehow. I don't know why it didn't crash that one time but crashed 3 times before that and about 15 times since then (I restarted the game.)

Also, I have already found and installed the latest driver for the M6P, to no avail.

P4 2.0 GHz
128MB RAM
ATI Mobility M6
WinXP Pro

Try an older driver? Failing that, your video card may just not be compatible with the game. Laptop graphics cards aren't that great.

If you have a laptop with an ATI video adapter, go here

http://www.driverheaven.net/patje/

The utility there allows you to mod the latest ATI
Catalyst driver so that you can install it on your system.

Or that, that should work much better.

I did find another solution, crazy as it sounds, i deleted some rubbish off the system, and defragmented the hard drive, and no it is working fine, will update the drivers anyway, but this has worked for some obscure reason!

My solution was to copy my autosave to my desktop, finish that mission, then copy the autosave back to the laptop. (Not really a solution, more like a workaround.)

That's the only point in the game so far that I've ever had this problem. I have a feeling that it's probably a directX bug or deviation from the specification.

EDIT: deviation, not deviance :-O

Update

It's happened to me again. When I get to Kyushu in the SP game, and click on the ship dealer icon, the system reboots during the cut-scene for the ship dealer.
