crash after startup

Just recently the game has started crashing just before the main menu. I have tried all other fixes indicateded in the forum but nothing seems to work. I have played the game for about two weeks without a hitch, in fact it played fantastic. I have since uninstalled the game, wiped the registry clean of anything related to Freelancer or digital anvil and still when I re-install I get the same problem. Please help me!

...and I'm spent..(sigh)

Gee, I just started having the same problem. It started after I uninstalled that Babylon5 mod. I tried reinstalling the game too, and it didn't work. Anybody know what might fix this?

Thanks a lot.

I had this problem, too, and I've found the solution. It has something to do with your account files, located in My Documents\My Games\Freelancer. When I moved that directory to another location, the game started up just fine. I haven't yet tried to figure out which particular files in there cause the problem -- it may, for instance, be the autosave, if for instance the autosave happens in a mod and you then deactivate that mod, or it may be something else -- but it's in those files somewhere.

Where do you move it to?

Just any other folder?

Sweet!!! Thanks a lot, works great. I just moved it to a random test folder I keep around to test things.

FW: Move it or delete it; I moved it because I want to try moving stuff back into place to figure out where the problem lies, but I haven't had time to do that yet.
