There is a ini file that probably needs to be deleted. (Freelancer is trying to initilize the new card as if it were the old) Record your multiplayer number and uninstall/reeinstall the game. Ensure the entire game directory has been removed.

Please note that I am only giving you a canned solution for a problem that happens with many games when video cards are upgraded. Basically, the card is no longer the one that the games ini files says it is, but the game doesn't think to test the card again. It just tries to boot as if it were the same card, hense the crash. Usually deleting the file that has the card specs on it is a fix, but in this case that file contains so much other info that just removing it may not work.
It may not even be the right file. But if you wish, try removing the file flconfigdatabase.txt and then restarting the game. you can also try the same with Freelancer.ini. They both contain video data but one looks like just a user info file (the TXT) and the other seems just to load up default data and contains the master server list. (the ini).

thx.

but ive trayd to uninstal everything and install again. but its the same. cant delete freelancer.ini cuzz then it gets a error and whont start.
i cuud delete the (TXT) file u sed but no results.
in the ini files i see DX ver 8. i dont know if this is the prob because i have updated to DX 9.

what do u think?

Try 9A? They were released about 2 weeks after Freelancer.

Have you installed any windows update packages since your first Freelancer install?

The reason I ask is that there are several updates that will break Freelancer.

If you have, roll back your system before the Update install. In that case it has always worked.

I had directX 9.0 when i cudd play the game. then later updated DX to 9.0A
u think it is 9.0A??? if so how do i get the 9.0 one.
no i havent done any windowsupdate.

If I'm not mistaken, DirectX 9.0 is included in the Freelancer CD. It very well could be 9.0a that is screwed up... run the program called "dxdiag.exe" (use the Find function in the Start menu to locate it if you don't remember where it is) and let it test your system and files; perhaps it will discover something wrong for us.

there is nothing wrong with directX 9.0a. well no errors anyway.
so il try install 9.0 if its just overwrite.
i must delete dx 9.0a before running dx 9.0??

Slug: The only problem with that theory is that I am running 9A with no problems.

But there is one possible difference.

I had DX9 installed on my machine before I had installed Freelancer, and my DX9 install was from the release package, not the one on the Freelancer CD.
Could this be an issue?....

Undertaker: If you had 9.0 working and installing 9a messed up your game, see about rolling back your system to the point before you installed 9a. There is a good chance that your system does not like 9a. (for some odd reason)

DX was not the prob. it was the nvidia update. whent back to 41.(something) and now it works fine agen. THX nog.

Right from the Nvidia site:

Windows XP/2000
Version: 43.45
Release Date: March 27, 2003

Windows XP/2000
Version: 41.09
Release Date: December 3, 2002
WHQL Candidate

Windows XP/2000
Version: 40.72
Release Date: November 8, 2002
WHQL Certified

As you can see, there is only one version that is WHQL certified as of today (40.72). That 41.09 have been a candidate for a long time too. Obviously the 43.45's are just a beta and not recommended for stability sake.
