*FIX* Text Problems

Heh BOW before me, I have figured out how to fix it. Here is a step by step tutorial just as I did it to fix my friend's copy.

1. Go to your Freelancer\EXE\ folder

2. Look for a file named, "flconfigdatabase.txt" and open it.

3. Scroll down until you see the name of your manufacturer.

4. Now look for your GFX card's model number.

5. Make a new line under it

6. Hit TAB then paste this: TextureOffset

7. Scroll down to the bottom of the model number list and you should see some words like this:

UnsupportedHardware
BrokenAlphaTest
ForceSquareTextures
break

8. Delete the ForceSquareTextures line.

9. Save the file then close it.

10. Run Freelancer.

NOTE: If you can't get it to work post here and I will help you. If it DOES work for you PLEASE post here with your model number and a copy/paste of the edited lines.

This has been tested with the Intel 810 GFX card and it worked no problem.

More test results to come......

I've been bowing since yesterday, when I first read your post about the fix. Thanks again. I'll post my edited file when I get home from work.

It didn't fix my problem... My text has been huge ever since I had to restore my registry.

Echelonix, looks like others who have had the large text problem have had to reinstall the game to correct.

I couldn't get your suggestion to work, but my graphics card isn't listed at all in the text file. I tried just making the modification to all of the listed SiS cards just in case, but this didn't help.

I'm running an SiS 630 (64Mb) and just can't get rid of the flickering/invisible text problem no matter what I try.

Is all lost? Is there anything else anyone can suggest? Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you!

This worked for my Intel 810. I nearly took the game back as it was ruined by the text - now its as clear as day!

If you have an Nvidia card, get Riva tuner, and when you figure out how to use it go to the Direct3D setting then the Blitting tab. Changing some of the options there works, but unfortunatly I can't remember whchc ones it is. I had this problem with a few other games when I had my GF4, but since I no longer do I cannot test it out to tell you the correct ones to check. It only took me a few tries to get it right, as I think it is only one of the options that matters, it isn't an exact combination of the 3.

If you ran a system restore and find that the text is huige, it's because you don't have the Font files installed anymore. Make sure you have AGENCYB.TTF, AGENCYR.TTF and ARIALUNI.TTF in your C:\Windows\Fonts directory (They are on the install CD)

I have a 82815BA Intel card. How do I do it?

My stupidity doesn't concern you, it's your stupidity that doesn't concern me.

VENOM - You are a lifesaver!!

I had a C: drive crash (IBM 'Deathstar') - and I've been trying to get my FREELANCER text bug fixed for the last week (since re-installing XP).

I've done ~ 6 video driver installs - all in the name of fixing the Freelancer HUGE text problem. Until I came across this forum doing a Google search (in a last desparate attempt....rapidly tiring of re-installing bad video drivers).

Alas - a Simple missing font problem Sometimes the obvious things are right in front of you.....
