A different Type of Crash..

Ever since installing DX9(And recently DX9.0a) I have had this issue in Freelancer that it would freeze up for 30 seconds, but seemingly it still plays on.

To reiterate on that, I mean the Graphical Image itself seems to freeze, but I can still hear some background sound, and in MP the game plays on, but not SP(Figures). Now here is the thing that is different, it only lasts for 30 seconds or so, then it goes back to being normal, unless I have been killed.

In SP the whole game stops during the freeze, and the same with MP as long as no Real Person is in the same area(as I found out last nigh as I flew into a Minefield before I could stop it froze LOL!).

Now, my system specs are:

Intel P4 2.4B @ 2.716(151MHz FS on a SiS648 Chipset
Corsair XMS PC3500 512MB(single stick) running 402MHz 6/2/2/2
GeForce4 Ti4600 330/680
Windows 2000 Pro SP3

I have used 5 different drivers, and DX9.0 and DX9.0a. I have even reformatted my system, and reinstalled Windows 2000 Pro.

Just curious, in case I am missing it somehow, is there a patch for this game?

A few things to try:

1. Set all your overclocked components to their regular speed and see if the problem still occurs.

2. I've seen a similar problem having to do with a network connection. If you're on a network, try disabling it briefly to see if that has any affect. If it does, you'll want to re-enable it and play around with the settings. (If I remember right, for me it was caused by the file and printer sharing, and after messing with that stuff and uninstalling/reinstalling, I eventually got it working again).

EDIT: For #2, this was waaay before FreeLancer, but a similar thing happening. However, just remembered it happened in virtually everything (especially games, but even Windows itself), so this probably is not it.

I run O/C'ed components and don't have a problem with Freelancer so I don't see how that could affect it. It's gotta be something else. Probably video drivers or DX...

I'm not arguing or anything, but some applications are more sensitive to overclocking than others (and it does depend a lot on the computer), so it may be worth a try. I read somewhere else on here that it fixed it for someone. It may not, but if you've tried everything else, just a might-work idea.
