Still have crash issues (please read)

The place to ask for technical help with running the demo or the full game...

Still have crash issues (please read)

Before you jump on my back for posting yet another topic about the crashes I want you to know I've already looked at ALL the forum posts related to this and still can not find a coherent solution to my problem. I have updated to the latest offical drivers on my audio and video, I've updated the codecs, and I've turned of 3D sound... still I get crashes randomly.

These are my specs:
AMD 2.1
GF 4 4400Ti
1 Gig Ram
SB Audigy Gamer

I haven't changed the video rate they suggest, I dont know where to do that, and although I have disabled Auto-protect on Norton AV 2002 it is still running. If any of you have any insight I would greatly appreciate it.

Update:
I thought I had it when I decreased my AA form Quin to 2x and Antro to 2x, I was certinally able to play longer but eventually it crashed again. As a little more detail to my crash it forces me to a pixelated screen which hard locks my computer and forces me to reboot. Again, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hmmm... nVidia just released new drivers - you might try them? Also, you may want to see if there are any updates for your motherboard or anything. I'm using an Audigy and a GeForce Ti4600, so that's similar (though I'm running a P4 CPU) and have had no problems.

Good luck!

Alright had the new nvidia drivers, downloaded the 4-1 pack this morning, game still crashes, but it seems to be when another app launchs a popup (aim alerts, random popup ads) - though sometimes it is still random.

Random pop-up ads? You shouldn't be getting that. Scan your computer for adware and spyware dude.

the problem also occurs when I exit the game, it goes to a blue pixalated screen and locks up my system... I dont even know whether I should bother contacting microsoft - they always seem to be under the impression that it's everybody else's fault their software doesn't work right.

A lot of the time it is the other guys products and not Microshaft that is at fault. (Microshaft has no legal resposibility to design Windows to work with any sound card. It is the card manufacterer's responsibility to ensure their cards work with Windows. Same goes with any and all software you buy.)

It is my belief that your sound card is the cause of all your problems.
First read this article.

Then disable your midi completely, and pray it works.
If all else fails, buy a cheap Via sound card (Via sound cards run about 10 to 30 dollars and they work well with Freelancer) and see if having it solves your problem.

Hopefully this helps.

yes but if my soundcard works for every other game I play without problems then it seems that is most definitely is Microsofts responsibility (at least to their customers) to provide seemless support for the Audigy. The fact that SB is pretty much the mainstream in sound cards adds to the frustration. Something so popular (even if your article makes it sound like a pos) should not be neglected by Microsoft.

Thank you for your link, I'll try it out and hopefully it will work.

You know, I do actually agree with you. I also believe that Microsoft should work better with the Card makers and such. Unfortunately, in your case the error is not with Microsoft, but is the result of a design flaw within the SBlive/ Audigy Hardware and the only one who can fix it is Creative Labs. As much as I would like to blame Bill Gates for this, It is not Microsoft's problem.

can you send me a link that tells me how to disable my midi, or do I just go into my device manager and disable my card?

In Windows XP you can disable the midi in the Audio Devices panel located in the control panel window. or disable the driver directly in the system devices dialog (in all win9x OSes) Just check the box labled "Disable in this profile", or "disable in all profiles", under your driver properties.
Note that doing this will cause any games or apps that use the midi channel to crash so be sure to turn the midi back on if you plan to play any Doom.
Not a problem with most newer games as they use wav or mp3 for music now. No need for a midi channel.

DO NOT disable the Midi if you have Pasport Designs, Encore 4.0 installed. Doing so will cause Encore to rewrite the Midi Driver with it's own (Therby trashing your soundcard drivers)
In this case just change the default Midi output driver to the MPU401 Driver, it will serve the same purpose as disabling the Creative Midi Driver.

The article I linked to above contains detailed instruction on how to disable midi on all OSes if you need to. Refer to my origonal post for the link or the 88th post in the soundfix thread on top of the technical page.

Okay so I went to:
Sound and Audio Devices->Hardware->Creative SB Audigy->Properties->Properties Tab->Midi Devices and Insturments->Creative Audigy Audio Processor->Do Not Use MIDI Features on this device.

That should work right?

****That didn't work, it disabled my entire card so I had no sound at all*****

MY COMP> CONTROL PANEL>SYSTEM>DEVICE MANAGER>SOUND, VIDEO, AND GAME CONTROLLERS>CREATIVE LABS MIDI DRIVER(don't know the exact driver name). Rightclick, Check the disable tab in the little window.

it only lists the Audigy WDM as an Midi device on the properties panel, which is the same as the Audio device, so when I turn off midi I turn off the audio device... as to your suggestion, please give me more details as to the steps cause I cant find any play to switch the input/output of my midi device

Nothing seems to be working, when I try to exit the game it still crashes me to the blue pixalated screen, I'm going to try to disable the card and see if it works
