Unable to join games in MP

Ok, my problem is this...

I get the server list on Freelancer and all is fine. I click connect and after like 30 seconds it pops up saying "The operation is taking longer then expected." After that it says I cannot join due an error. It says that it's usually caused by internet problems and whatnot.

My computer specs fit the needs of the game, plus some. I'm running on broadband cable over a LAN (My house is networked with my brothers). This LAN is also protected by a firewall if that may be the problem. Please help me fix this! I really want to play MP!

I almost found the fix, I opened the required ports on my firewall by microsoft. However, still no dice. I emailed the people who made the firewall since it's hardware, maybe they'll shed soem light. Still open to suggestions please?
